Hello,

I posted this on Reddit but you either get really useful people or the most unhelpful people on there so i've come to this place in hope of information.

So i recently just bought a R9 390 for my build and been trying to get my PC running, and it does run for a good half hour but often just dies and wont start up again until i unplug it for about 40 seconds and plug it back in.

Looked into this issue and its most likely because i have a really crappy 700w PSU by Aerocool.
Do any of you recommend a specific PSU for my new GPU? My budget is about £50-£80 as i've obviously spent most of my budget on the card. And if so, please try and not link me all the PSU's that are "£79.99" as some people did on Reddit. I know i put my budget between 50-80 but i'd obviously prefer something in the lower end of the price range.

Thanks mate.

Unfortunately the top of you've linked doesn't seem to have it.
And im weary of a Bronze rated PSU now since my current Aerocool one is a Bronze and just isn't cutting it.

Bronze is not a quality rating, it's an efficiency rating. Quality wise the XFX is a much better than the aerocool.

A R9-390 needs a 6 and an 8 pin aux power connector.
Exactly what make/model is your R9-390?
Some factory overclocked cards need more.
This chart suggests a 650w psu for a normal card:
http://www.realhardtechx.com/index_archivos/Page362.htm

In theory, your 700w psu should do the job.
You may well have a power issue because aerocool may not deliver advertised power.

But, I think if your psu were underpowered, you would see problems almost immediately.
Issues after running half an hour suggest to me heat issues.
Try removing the side covers of your case and see if that helps.

You may also have a less than good sample of the R9-390 card.
Some have considerable problems.
This gigabyte, for example has 40% 0 and 1 egg ratings on newegg.

Look at the details to see if the symptoms are yours.
You might want to return the card.

If you do want to change out your psu, buy only a quality unit like Seasonic or xfx.
Try for a tier 1 or 2 unit from a quality list such as this:

650w-750w is about right.

Bronze rating is only an efficiency rating. Energy savings from a higher rated psu are minimal and do not reflect quality.
