Question Just Ordered a 4080 and wondering how much my current CPU Will Bottleneck it or if at all.

Current Specs are listed below basically just wondering if I should also upgrade the CPU while I'm at it or if it will be fine for now would rather wait a bit. Referring to if the CPU is going to limit the performance of the 4080 but if it's only slightly that's not a big deal to me for now but I certainly wouldn't want it to limit it a lot. Also since I'm posting this might as well ask about thermal paste I've never done any maintenance besides cleaning out dust should I be doing that with this CPU Cooler? I never even wanted the 3070ti I wanted the 3080 but it wasn't in stock for so long when I first bought this PC.

Appreciate any advice thanks!

How old is the PSU in your build?

What sort of games(titles) are you going to tax the system with? You could remove the CPU's block and see if the thermal paste is crusty/dried. If so, you remove it with isopropyl alcohol and then reapply a goo/high quality thermal paste.

Hey there,

Key to that question is what res monitor you have. What res and make/model is it?

It is true that if you put in a much better part which is fed by slower parts that you won't use 100% of the newer/better part. You still get improvement. The whole concept of "bottleneck" is about whether one part is a lot slower than another such that the quality and ability of the better part is not maximized. Quite often the answer to that depends on the particular software used, and maybe which part of the software is currently running.

So what if the CPU is too slow? It is still an improvement. You could later upgrade the CPU if you want to get the GPU to 100% and reuse the newer GPU.

There is no such thing as

Bottleneck

Stop listening to whoever tech illiterate is teaching you these buzzwords to scare you.
Thanks! Yeah someone told me that then I looked it up and there is legit a website that has a bottleneck calculator it is pc-builds website. So after going on that I just assumed it was a thing lol. In that case I will just upgrade the CPU later on, pretty sure it's plenty good for now. Thanks again!

Thanks, greatly appreciate the help! Going to just upgrade the CPU later on then. I contacted NZXT to ask them if the 4080 will even work with my current build but they haven't responded. I looked up my motherboard aswell as the power supply and it seems it will work from what I found. Do you know?

It is hard to say on the PSU. A newer CPU might draw more power, and thus if you are at the edge of power on the current system, and if it works on the current system, then it might still fail when upgrading more than just one part. I personally always get overkill on the PSU and so I never worry about it. I would, however, worry about any supply with a 4080 or beefier GPU. I don't know if the 850W will work, and I'd consider bumping that up if you can't find a specific answer for the exact GPU/CPU combo, and especially if you expect a future upgrade to the CPU as well.
