I'm back once again asking for advice.
So basically i'm going to be building a pc for gaming and vr gaming, will also use it for other things but gaming is the major thing.
I've posted on here before asking for advice and got some great information. I thought i was ready to but my pc build when i found the cryorig H7 might not be beefy enough to cool the i7 7700k cpu...so then i searched up and found the Noctua NH-D15...and obviously everything spirals as i need to find a bigger case, component notes on motherboard and what not...so here i am...again...

CPU
i7 - 7700k (Want the ability to overclock if i ever want a bit of a boost in performance, won't be ocing for the moment)

CPU COOLER
Noctua NH-D15 or Noctua NH-D15S or Cryorig R1 Ultimate (I really just care about keeping the cpu cooling, the look for the cooler won't bother me and i don't want it loud)

MOTHERBOARD
I've been thinking of going for the MSI - Z270 GAMING PRO CARBON (i'm not too bothered about which motherboard, i just need a few usb slots for vr, and obviously it to be compatible with everything) Thats where my first question comes in, The motherboard M.2 slot #1 shares bandwidth with a SATA 6.0 Gb/s port. When the M.2 slot is populated, one SATA 6.0 Gb/s port is disabled. (Will this be a problem)

MEMORY
Corsair Vengeance LPX 16 gb DDR4 3000 (2 x 8gb)

STORAGE
Samsung 960 EVO 250gb M.2 (was told i might aswell go for the m.2)

Seagate Barracuda 2TB (have read a few reviews and some people have had issues...)

VIDEO CARD
Asus - Geforce GTX 1080 ti11gb STRIX GAMING (didn't know whether to go with the fan or blower style)

CASE
Not too bothered on which case, good sturdy case, not bothered about how it looks or if it has a glass, was thinking be quiet! - Dark Base Pro 900 w/Window (Black) ATX Full Tower Case, before changing the cpu cooler i had chosen the nxzt s340 but obviously had to change it.

POWER SUPPLY
EVGA SuperNOVA G2 650W (may need to up the w a bit)

OPERATING SYSTEM
Windows 10 home or pro (whichever)

This is the build on pcpartpicker...https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/JF23Yr

Let me know what you think, and if you give a reply i will probably have a few questions...thanks in advance.

And i will be getting a decent monitor for the build. If you have any suggestion let me know.

.........................................................................................
EDIT

So after reading through everything everyone has said, i think i am going to go with this build... https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/NJPXwV Some people said i should change to a ryzen chip for the future as games might need more cores...but im going to stick with the i7. I decided on the cryorig r1 ultimate purely because it performs almost the same as the noctua, i am less likely to have clearance issues and on the case it will look better. Sticking with the motherboard, corsair ram, lowered the ssd down to the samsung 850 evo as i don't think i have the need for the m2, was going to change to the wd 2tb for hdd but couldn't find a good one on sale so i am sticking with the seagate barracuda 2tb, going for the asus graphics card because it cools well and is quieter than the blowers, case will be the phanteks enthoo its a nice looking case i will most likely add one or two more fans into it just to help air flow, gone with the corsair rmx750w psu even though i am a bit hesitant as buyers have left some worrying reviews on all the psus i have been looking at, and going with microsoft 10 home.
Let me know your final thoughts. And i am now looking to get some nice decent fans for the case, i was wondering if i would be able to get the exact same ones that come with the case, would they be worth it, any recommendations?
Also for the build i will need a decent monitor, i have been looking at some but review have said there are black lines, backlight bleed, so on.
Also looking for a nice not too pricey keyboard.
Thanks for all your help.

The mobo has many sata ports. 6 I think if I am not mistaken. So 1 port is populated if you use the m.2 ssd. Which leaves you with 5 ports for ur 2tb hdd.

Everything looks good. I prefer WD to Seagate but its simply personal preference based on what has given me less issues.

I am not sure why you believe the H7 is not good enough to cool the 7700K, but hey, more cooling never hurt anyone right. Noctua have a fantastic reputation for service and since these 3 coolers are very similar I would pick either of the Noctuas.

Your PSU is fine.

I would get Win 10 Pro as it gives you more control over certain aspects of the OS, like deferring updates for a week or so till they mature.

Would the cryorig r1 ultimate allow the cpu to stay at a decent temp under load, as i have heard and read that the cpu tends to run hot, the memory is that a personal preference over the corsair or is it better in some aspect?

I will do some research on that video card now, to see what its temps, noise and stuff is like/

That case chosen would that be decent and long lasting?

I was thinking of changing the psu to a g3 over a g2.

And ill look into that monitor thanks.

I will definetly go with windows pro then, do you think i should change the psu to g3 or stay at g2?

I've searched a bit about the noctuas d15 and d15s and i couldn't find whether one performs better than the other, the s only has one fan...does that effect its performance, noise and what not. And yeah i was thinking the h7 but a beefier cooler can never hurt.

And yeah im stuck between seagate and wd.

My brother works as an IT administrator for the HelpDesk on a 15,000 student university campus. The predominant computer problem they face that is hardware related is HDD failure. The failure rates for WD is lower than Seagate. Also, many brand new Seagate disks arrive with bad sectors while this is very rare on WD drives...

EDIT: The G2 and G3 PSU's are very similar. The G3's utilize smaller components and have slightly better fans. These are tiny margins, but the G3 is a small bit better.

The r1 is comparable to the NH d15 in performance. So no issues there cooling the 7700k under load.

The nighthawk is a 3000mhz ram at Cas 16 latency whereas the corsair is Cas 15 latency. For running them at 3000mhz,no issues. But if you plan to overclock the ram to higher frequency like 3600,then the corsair is better.

If you want the quietest card, go for the msi gaming x. Or Asus Strix.

The corsair 300r is a decent no nonsense case. It also has good fan support for ventilation.

^Agreed with all, but I want to add that the Corsair 300r is not the same quality as the NZXT s340 or Dark Base Pro 900.

Hey steven,

If you want to go for the intel route, thats your choice, but just saying that ryzen is the better value for the moment.
You will lose a handful fps on some games for now... but you get alot of more cores and threads which will help you in multi tasking and more games start to benefit from it.

About your build I made a few changes

- the motherboards has got better features and overclocking capabilities
- the cryorig h7 lumi cools a little bit worse but looks a ton better with the leds, its also dead silent.
- ram looks better.
- case is way better quality and full aluminium.
- better psu

about the windows I would defenetly get the cheapest version, those features on the pro version are things you will never need.

If i were to look at ryzen cpus that are better than the i7 7700k which would you recommend?

I will definitely have to check that motherboard out.
The cpu cooler i will probably stick with the noctua or cryorig r1 as aesthetics don't bother me that much.
That case is starting to sway me as others have recommended it as well...time for some research hehe, is this case good for air flow?

And i will look into the psu.

Thanks.

Better than the 7700k?
That depends on the task given , if we say gaming I would opt for the 1700x/1700.
Its a fast stable cpu, a tiny bit slower than the 7700k but if we are going to involve other tasks on the backgground , its faster.

The case is one of the most durable cases I know, comes with great featurs like dual pump support if you ever want a custom loop.
ALso the airflow is really nice.

About the psu its rocksolid and really really quiet.

Its the best case I know, quality and airflow are great.

^Agreed. The case is one of the best on the market at the moment.

Ryzen 7 is a good option right now, but it is a great option long term. It will scale better with newer games than the 7700k as new games start to take advantage of more cores where the i7 is lacking.

Well i'm not going to be running much in the background while gaming, i won't be streaming or recording. So do you think i should sick with the i7 or go for the ryzen? Thanks.

If i were to change from the i7 7700k to the ryzen 7, should i got for the 1700 or the 1700x, and it would mean i would need to change which motherboard, which would you recommend. And would i need to change the cpu cooler. Anything else it requires changing?

Reading more about the PSUs and review some people have put up after buying, i think i am going to go with the Rmx 750w psu, let me know what you think.
