I think some of the tyan super 7 boards have a beta bios that supports the newer + chips. There are other, FIC might be one brand also.. I would check the Mainboard akers web page for beta Bios'

If your board supports 2.0 or 2.1 volts then it will probably "run". The bios may not recognize it if it is an older board but so long as it recognizes the K6 family of chips, it will allow the 6x multiplier. The L2 cache may not be active if the bios is too old. Try a K6-2 500 first.

I'm using a Asus P5A Rev. 1.03 Board with no problems at all. I have a k6-3+ 450 at Vcore at 2.0

The above post is incorrect I have such a chip and found quite a slew of boards that would not support it although they had settings for the correct voltage. Here is a partial list of boards that will support it however:

FIC 503+ (pcb ver 1.2a- beta bios je4330)

FIC 2013 (revision 1.1 - 2.0)

Asus TX97E

BCM VP1541 (bios ver 1.08)

Asus P5A (bios 1011.002 beta)

Asus P5A-B (1011bn02 beta)

Soltek sl-5u1

ms-5169

Soyo 5EMA+ (ver 1.0)

here is a good list obtained from amdzone forum, anyone with k6-x + experiences should go their and help out the list and anyone with equestions as well. Did you know there is a utility to change the multiplier in windows/dos for these processors - it is not 100% complete obviously eg. asus p5a only works for older models of board (defies thinking but true). some boards need extra programs to enable all cpu optimisations. Their is also a possibilty on some boards that do not boot at all at 450mhz to boot at 300 or below (something to do with bios) and then use utilities to change multiplier and implement optimisations.

Best boards are epox mvp3G2 and tyran s1598 i would say

Because that AMD don't official launch the k6-X + processors,
you can't request any further support of your motherboard manufacturer.
If you would like to run a k6-2+ or k6-3+ and you go buya new mobo ,
the best option is the Epox mvp3g2, because it's very stable
has a good layout and runs the k6-2+ and k6-3+ garanteed!

Great list Jerrek! Now what we need is someone that knows how to edit bios strings to enable it on the boards that do not currently support it. I know it can be done but it is way beyond my level of expertise. Seems like a simple cpu id string is all it would take on most boards, ie once the bios nows what the processor is it allows you to boot? Is that way off the mark?

A little bit of knowledge is a dangerous thing!

for some reason I can't get my profile/account to work right on the amdzone forums...
so, I'll tell you Jerrek.
PC Chips M598LMR works after you've flashed the bios to the 9/30/2000 version.
