Has Any one set this board up yet"K8N Neo2 Platinum {socket 939}. I am wondering what the best memory for this board would be. I have been using kingston and thought DDR 3200 set up in dual channel would do.Thanks Bruce

If you already have memory use that, otherwise I prefer Corsair XMS. Their website will help you pick the best memory for your motherboard.

Check out their support website/support forums and compare them to other manufacturer's.

I am a sucker for lifetime warantee's and a really good support forum staffed by a Corsair engineer.

I also like to hold out for no hassle advance replacement RMA's.

I'm still wondering the same thing about the same board. On NewEgg, a reviewer for Crucial Ballistix 184-Pin 512MB DDR PC-4000 memory said he put two in his Neo2. This confused me as this is higher than the mobo listed DDR-400 type - but I am a complete noob on memory in toto. I had assumed 4 slots with a 1GB capacity equals 4GB, but not according to the MSI manual. If I did fill all 4 slots, it will default the memory speed to DDR-333.

No memory yet so Thanks for the great advise.I will certainly look into it. Bruce

According to MSI the max memory speed decreases when each channel is istalled with two double sided modules. or both dimm1 and dimm 3 are installed with double sided modules.Msi can confuse you,it said always insert the memory in the green slots first and is strongly urged not to insert memory in the purple slots while the green slots are empty. That means to me that you need 3 dimms to obtain dual channel?Bruce

Except for the entry (I assume we are both reading from the same page 2-8 of the manual) that states "DO NOT install three memory modules on three DIMMs, or it may cause some failure". I love that: 'some' failure. The second to the last row of the Recommended Memory Combination List seems the highest capacity for DDR400, but I still am trying to figure out which 184 pin DDR400 memory sticks are S (single side).

i have that board and have had nothing but problems.. im using some kingston memory, its about a year old, the KHX3200AK2/1g and it seems to read it slower than it should be.. id say probably go for the corsair.. but honestly i wouldn't really recomend this board, its given me nothing but headaches and i think my problems may be that the agp slot may be bad.. hell i still havent figured it out. their tech support is terrible btw. think its outsourced to india i couldnt really understand the guy and he was of no help

Only two DIMMs are required to obtain dual channel, but they need to be the same speed - preferrably in a dual pack so they are a matched set. Insert one DIMM in each of the green DIMM slots and your memory will setup for dual channel.

Have you read the FAQ? Looked for previous posts on this topic?

Are you asking what brand of DDR400 is single sided. If so I have been using Kingston value ram,DDR 3200 and DDR 2700 the system seems to run more stable and I will load a gig which is plenty for me.I see also like you said you can run 1,2 or4 but not three dimms. Figure that Bruce

no, u actually insert 2 dimms in the first 2 slots from the cpu socket outward. I know it makes no sence cuz of the color codes, but the manual and website actually state it. I have this board with a winchester 3500 and 2 GB kingston hyperx (2x1GB) and it runs freeking nice. I haven't had any problems. o, and if yer gonna get 2GB and want it in dual channel then i recomend the hyper x, its the only one i could find that had decent timings. (2.5,3,3,7) this is 3200 btw. I saw the manual saying no to 4GB DDR400, but i'm sure it will run at 400 with4gb if ya want, i mean its designed for overclocking to an exttent. and thats not much of an increase. o, another fyi on the mem i bought found out afterwards the timings advertised are for a lower speed than 400 - think it said 266 - but again its not a big problem to set the timings to the advertised ones. won't cause major problems if any at all. I was browsing these forums looking for a post made months ago about this board having probs with antec PSUs. another fyi. haven't found the post yet. I use an Allied, and no problems that i can see. I have to admit i've read posts from people having problems with MSI boards, but hopefully i won't have any since havn't yet.
