Question Kaspersky Pop-Up Menace

The main offender in the war I'm having with my edition of Kaspersky Total Security is this pop-up:

"Using Mozilla Firefox?Activate Kaspersky Protection extension to include your level of protection while online." Click on it and you are presented with a webpage entitled: "Kaspersky Protection 2021 by Kaspersky".

This I do NOT want. . . EVER.

Now I've gone into KTS's Settings, and in the Interface menu I've unchecked "Enable notifications sounds." I've also unchecked "receive information and advertisements from Kaspersky" as well as unchecking "Show information about special offers". Unhappily none of this unchecking has prevented me from being constantly pestered by the above pop-up. I have contacted Kaspersky about this issue, but have only received auto-generated responses so far.

My OS is Win 10 Home Edition.

Kaspersky was implicated in data mining/phoning home to mother Russia with sensitive info on it's users at least twice in the last few years and don't know that the last time was dealt with in any manner of way, IE probably still doing so. I would suggest another product or just using Defender and the space between your ears.

And I will add the suggestion to check Task Manager, Resource Monitor, Process Explorer, and Task Scheduler for any unidentifiable process, app, or utility running in the background.

Premise being that that pop-up is being presented by some other process running in the background. Not directly Kaskpersky and thus not controllable or configurable.

Possibly being launched at startup or perhaps triggered later (Task Scheduler) when Kaspersky is running.

Process Explorer (Microsoft, free):

https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/downloads/process-explorer

Reliability History or Even t Viewer may be capturing some process being started and recorded as an informational event.

Take a look and check about.

That all said - will second @punkncat: Windows Defender/Security is all that is necessary with perhaps an occasional run of Malwarebytes.

Yes, I think it's time to let Kaspersky go and go the Defender route. Thanks for the input.

If you choose to go with Defender and aren't explicitly familiar with the security of all the sites you visit and downloads you chose to click, I recommend using a mid/high level on UAC. It will throw a pop up any time something tries to install or make changes. It can be a bit tiresome and the danger there is becoming less vigilant in response to the pop ups.

Another aspect to mention would be to keep good current backups of your personal data and keepsakes. Thus, if anything does get through you have the option to nuke and start over.

Yes, I'll do that. Personally I don't object to pop-ups if they do something useful, serve as an alert, for instance. Sales pop-ups are something else again, of course. Oh, and I back everything up the hilt. . . experience has turned me into a belt and braces person on that issue.

Thanks again.
