Apparently the deal with the 690 is that it has a much better, quieter cooler...and they are using highly-binned chips. So even though at stock clocks it will be slower than 2 680s, it will have much more overclocking headroom. So if you planned on OCing anyway and don't mind voiding your warranty on your $1000 video card, then it is a much better deal.

As far as the 660ti rumor I'm not sure. I had seen rumors that GK106 was going to be branded as 640/650 and that the 670 would be based on GK104 but nothing really about the 660. I didn't even know there was going to be a 'ti' 660. Just came across the rumor article so I posted it. *shrugs*

"Nvidia may just tough it out until the GK114 update makes it a moot point."

I hadn't heard of this GK114 business. I thought next up was GK110?

gk114 would be like the 560ti to the 460 for fermi. Which would ideally come after nvidia launches all the gk10X.

The gk110 was originally the gk100 which would be what the 680 would have been but since it wasn't doable in time it was renamed the gk110. Which they are going to keep working on until the 7XX cards probably. The gk114 would probably be the 760ti or 770 with the gk110 probably being the 780 and 770ti.

Thats all just speculation and nobody really knows whats going on with nvidia's actual kepler chips and what and when they will launch.

yeah i was really excited about the benchs until i saw that little anomaly. pretty stupid effort for whoever made the graphs.

ive given up. i've officially decided to skip kepler and wait for maxwell. im not even going ivy bridge. i just bought a 2500K and found a brand new gtx 590. here's the kicker, i only payed 650 bucks for the 590! stoked!

I'm sorry, but why would you pay 650 for a 590? You could have gotten a 7970 for like 450 or a 680 for $500, both of which are only a few % behind the 590 when it comes to performance. They also generate much less heat and use a lot less power. Not to mention that they are single cards, while the 590 is a dual GPU solution, and will have problems in certain games.

Yes but..... the 590 comes with cake!. Come on bro if the 590 has that extra performance... hes gonna need it to go maxwell. Since the only game thats been tested showing the performance of one kepler card, a 590 is the only thing that can handle "that game" if you were to use that as a reference to all the other games coming out, your gonna need horse power and the 590 is his best bet, he can also get another 590 in the 3 year journey to maxwell

Anyone else going to stalk newegg tonight to snag all the 690s they can to sell back to the fanboys on ebay for 1200-1400 dollars? I totally am... Gtx680s are still selling for $700 despite the HD 7970 being in ample supply. Fanboys gotta get their fix I guess.

Amen!!!
Look to be honest I just wanted to go with something I know I will love for the price I payed. Maxwell is a while away and I plan to make it there with my new baby.

But cmon, the graphics card market is so fickle and unpredictable that realistically its impossible to feel entirely satisfied. You will always, no matter what feel like you could have gone with something better. I guess I've just come to that conclusion after watching this game for so long. So yeah! I probably haven't done the right thing but my 590 pumps out some serious fps! 😀 :sol:

And btw trogdor796 I live in Australia. The cheapest you can get a 590 is about 800 bucks and about 750 for gtx680. So I've actually done pretty well 😀

I didn't mean to insult him, I just wanted to make sure he was aware of the current scenario and where the 590 lies.

It's his money, and I'm sure he is happy with his purchase. And he came on here to tell us that, that's what a forum is for. And I replied to make bring to view my opinion on the situation, also what a forum is for. If I was getting a top of the line card right now I would probably get a 7970 for $200 less than what he payed for the 590, since it's just as powerful with an OC, or maybe a 680, if you can find one that is, but that's just me. I'm enjoying my 680, and I'm sure his 590 will serve him well.

Maxmatlock13, that will be a beast system you have. I have a 2500k and the thing is simply a beast, you'll love it. I'm curious, where were you able to find the 590 in stock, and, for that price?

EDIT - Ah, Australia. I was going by U.S prices, sorry! That is a steal in that case! I'm guessing the 7970 is pretty expensive there too huh?

Yeah pretty much everything here is bumped up a notch in terms of prices.... Which is pretty stupid given that our dollar is stronger than yours lately. Anyway yeah a 590 I got for that price on a website doing a one hour "epic deal time" thing and I got lucky. The 7970 is still about 600 bucks here. Beleive it or not there are Australian eBay sellers scalping 680s for over 950 dollars. Such a scam. No offense taken mate its all part of the gpu war haha. Like I said t really just rings true to the fact that the speed of the upgrades in this market just makes it so fickle.

I'm not upset with my decision. And who knows? I could up and sell the 590 for some cash and jump into Kepler in a few months. Some money lost but I figure that money lost is spent on the fun of being in such a market. Too many people stress over this stuff but it's all fun!

I heard FF7 had the worst ending of any game... I then commented that whoever made that decision is a moron.
Anyway, yea people increase the prices of unavailable cards on ebay. It's simple supply and demand.
