Kernel Times out of control?

Here's my problem...I am currently running the following config:

-Tyan Tiger 100 (Single processor 600E)
-GeForce2 MX
-512 MB SDRAM

Within Win2k Professional, my CPU utilization is a constant 50%, even though no user mode applications are running. From within Task Manager, I turned on Show Kernel Times and all of the load seems to be coming from the kernel. I have reloaded the OS, swapped out CPUs, and tried different configurations to try and find out why and what the kernel is doing. I still am stumped by this problem. If anyone has any advice, it would certainly be appreciated.

Thanks,

Chris

Could be a few things, but you're gonna have to get to know Performance Monitor (one of the Administrative Tools) to really troubleshoot this. If you're up to it, a good overview of some of the counters is at

It's possible you have bad a piece of hardware triggering tons of interrupts (more than a few hundred when nothing else is going on.) Try to isolate it to hardware if you can. Disable/take out the NIC, then see if you're still having problems, etc.

Good luck...
