keyboard and usb keyboard not working on laptop

Hi, my acer aspire 3003lc laptop keyboard had bitten the dust, so got a usb keyboard but it's not working. Odd thing is that when i power on, the f2 key seems to work, and so does both keyboards, but then computer re-starts and then nothing is working again. Problem is i can't log in as an administrator as can't type in password. Have tried taking out battery and holding in power key, etc. while off as has been suggested on some forums but nothing. Any other ideas please?

What was the problem with the dead keyboard? It seems odd to me that you are able to press F2 on both keyboards during boot, but not after.

Hi, the power jack had to be replaced, and in doing so I'm pretty sure the keyboard robin got damaged, so only some of the keys work. F2 isn't one of the working keys, and neither is caps luck; but they both work when i use the usb to boot (caps lock lights up on normal keyboard) bit then both keyboards stop working. It's very odd. My friend who fixed the power jack tried worth his usb keyboard before returning it to me & it worked ok-so unsure whit this one isn't (it works fine on other laptops). Ant help is appreciated!
