The PC is connected to UPS but the ethernet cable was plugged to router which was plugged to wall. Right after the lightning struck, I heard a noise and got USB not recognised notification. The keyboard started to smell and stopped working. But everything else seems to work fine including the USB ports. The keyboard was plugged to the motherboard only. Nothing else. I am wondering if my other components are at risk now.

I used chrome for a while and it worked. I haven't done any stress tests or played games.

If new keyboard works fine & everything works okay on the PC --- nothing to worry about.

But you'd be wise to get a good quality surge-protector --- I use a pass-through Belkin plug-in one with my multi-socket extension cable plugged in to it.

Everyone who uses a PC or laptop should have surge-protection in place, and always check that the "Protected" LED is lit.

Yep, TrippLite Premium IsoBar for me

this is the only one I usually buy, the 8 port one
