Hello all,

Ive currently got a Gateway KB-0817 which has served me well. I've had it for a few years and need to replace it. I wanted to get just a cheap entry level gaming keyboard. I don't need anything special and tried out mechanical keyboards for a little, but I couldn't justify spending that much money on a keyboard. They weren't as impressive as they were hyped up to be.

I was thinking about just getting a CM storm devistator or reddragon, but they look so cheaply built in the photos. I dont want to regret buying anything like that. I also prefer to have a keyobard with media control and number pad. I would just go ahead and buy an upper level keyboard, but Id rather put $100 into something else like a larger mouse like a SS rival, since my G3 is way too small for my hands.

There might be some diamond in the rough made keyboards from main companies like Dell, HP, gateway..etc. For example, this keyboard isnt that bad, its just super old and has a lot of stuff under the keys that I cant clean out.

There are a couple of other keyboards like the AZIO brand, and the logitech g105, but I'm not a fan of Logitechs price gouging. $60 dollars for a membrane keyboard really worth around $45..

Id like to keep the budget <$50, but I can realistically spend more.
Recommendations?

idamaster,

Good that you have a budget but quality tends to cost more even if price is not an indicator of quality.

My recommendation is to go to a few of the big box stores if you can and actually look at and try some of the keyboards.

The fit and feel of the keyboard is very important as you know and indicate.

Gives you a real chance to judge the quality as well.

Strangely enough I often see older keyboards for sale at places like Goodwill or computer shows. Perfectly good and useable - you may even find another KB-0817. Ebay - maybe if you have that option.

I am using a Microsoft Keyboard/Mouse 1000 wireless setup. In fact I have two setups in use. Work well and not having wires all over is great.
