[SOLVED] Keylogged from phishing site?

I had clicked on a phishing site a month ago, and just today while playing Runescape my internet had gone down (although my ethernet PC and WiFi connected laptop never showed 'No Internet Connection' in the Windows network tray icon). I log back into my account and my items were gone-- only thing I can think of logically is that I had been hacked.

Question is then, what kind of virus can I anticipate from this? Currently running a system scan with Kaspersky, but short of a full fresh Windows reinstall I'd like to make sure I find whatever is infecting my computer. Any advice to offer for this situation?

  1. Full wipe and reinstall.
  2. From a known uninfected system, change ALL of your online passwords.
  3. Don't do that again

Alright thank you. What about the various storage drives I have? Just ensure to do a full scan of these? That's the part I'm worried about.

This is the first time I've ever done anything like this in my 20+ years on the internet and it feels very <Mod Edit>.

For your other drives, unknown.
Depends on what this is, and how far it went into your system.

This is where a comprehensive backup routine would easily fix things.
Restore the system to a date before this happened.

I have an external drive for backups. Would restoring to this solve my issues, or am I better off just doing a fresh install?

As far as other drives-- I have one for software that I can easily clean and another that has important files as a backup. 3 drives total, a software drive, important file drive, and a Windows Backup drive.

Depends on what your "backup" is.

Me, I do full drive backups.
If my C drive, or any other drive/partition, gets borked up, I can easily recover from an earlier date.

If you are not 100% sure, a full wipe and reinstall. Of at least your C drive.

I'm using Windows Backup feature for a daily backup and it keeps the backup for 1 month. I compromised myself almost a month ago, 7/6. It is backing up my full C drive, then a few locations of my extra data drive where I store things like downloads and documents.

I really have little experience with Windows Backups as I recently started using it ~2 years ago and haven't had to utilize any backups at all.

I, and others, have found the built in Windows backup tool to be seriously substandard.
I use Macrium Reflect for this.

So I do not know exactly what it has backed up for you, nor how to recover.

Fair enough. I'll do a fresh install and swap on over to Macrium Reflect. I had considered it when setting up my backup, but ultimately went with Windows built in back up. Thank you very much for the advice.
