As I watch Obama make his pitch, I noticed he said Ronald Reagan increased the debt ceiling 17 times, so it shouldnt be a problem now.

He also accused the repubs of just wanting to kick the can down the road, as theyd like a 6 month or so extension, and this isnt acceptable
Well hes not preaching to the choir here
When Reagan took office, the country was in the second worse reccesion weve ever had.
He needed to continually increase the debt ceiling to work thru that time.
Now, Obama doesnt want this, he wants to kick the can so far down the road, it wont have to be dealt with til after the next presidential election, which is quite uncommon for such a length of time.
My question is, would it be better to kick that sukker waaaay down the road as the prez sez, or, take smaller steps, a little at a time, and see where we can continue to best cut, and how to best raise taxes, if needed?

I have to disagree with Obama on this one. Regan tries to attempt to establish a smoother system of capitalism, but the big guys in business let him start a recession...which Clinton dealt with 10 years later and put us in a surplus...when Dems and Reps 'worked together.'
