Kingston pendrive asking to be formatted every single time its inserted into the port of PC. This pendrive is of my friend. He wanted some files from me. Every time i format it in exFAT it formats and i am able to put those files in it. But when I insert it again into the port it asks to format again and again. Now i haven't formatted in NTFS or FAT32 as in NTFS it says windows unable to format and in FAT32 it says that the file's size is too big to copied but its a 32 GB pendrive and the file is not that big. Please help how to fix this problem.

Hey there, Big Bang.

The file you're trying to write on the flash drive is probably larger than 4GB. The FAT32 file system has a restrictions when it comes to the size of partitions and files. You can make partitions of up to 32GB and use files of up to 4GB. That's the reason you're getting the message that the file is too big. As for the reformatting issue, Have you tried it with different USB ports? Do you "safely eject" the pen drive before you disconnect it from the computer? What kind of error do you get when you try to format it with the NTFS file system?
You could try the manufacturer's formatting tool, to see if you have any luck with it and if everything's OK after reformatting the USB flash drive with it. Also, try it with a...

Hope that helps.

Thanks for your answer. The error that is occurring is unable to complete the format while formatting it in NTFS.

The stick could be damaged. Flash has it's limits.

Here are some tools mainly aimed to defect faked incorretly marked sticks but they should detect errors on correctly sized sticks too.

Hi Big Bang,
Sounds like there might be some file system corruption on the drive that is keeping it from formatting correctly. Odd that it let's exFAT go by but errors out on NTFS. Have you tried using any alternate formatting utilities outside of Windows like HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool. http://download.cnet.com/HP-USB-Disk-Storage-Format-Tool/3000-2094_4-10974082.html?tag=mncol;1
Or using Diskpart in the command line to wipe out the drive? Walk-thru here if needed: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/52129-disk-clean-clean-all-diskpart-command.html

If it still ends up doing the same thing after those steps, there is probably something going on with the drive itself and I would recommend your friend get it replaced under warranty. We cover our flash drives with a five year warranty from the date of purchase.

Hope that helps! and thanks for using Kingston flash drives,
