KK266-R PCI / AGP Bus Speed

Should the PCI and AGP bus speed change when you switch the FSB from 100 to 133? At 100 PCI is 33Mhz and AGP is 66x4 or 264Mhz. At 133 PCI is 44Mhz and AGP is 88x4 or 352Mhz. I can switch the AGP to 2x or 176Mhz, but this is less then 66x4??? My system is subject mb Tbird 1000B, 256 crucial cas 2 memory and a cheap tnt2 video card. Also, has anyone tried the new turbo Bios from AMD yet? Thanks!

I have the same board and the same problem. I just flashed to the latest BIOS (3-5-01) from Iwill with no change. I was hoping that would fix it, but the description included only "fixed CPU frequency error" and that does not appear to be our problem. The problem we're having is that the FSB to PCI multiplier isn't changing when we switch the jumper (AGP, ISA, DMA as well). I can't find any option to adjust it in the BIOS. I can only tweak the fsb above 133, and that just raises the PCI, etc. even higher.

What are you using to determine your PCI and AGP speeds? I'm pretty new to this, so can only assume that Sis Sandra 2001 is reporting correctly. Anyone out there know if Sandra could be wrong...I hope? Any other options to test these bus speeds?

Anyway, I'm going to e-mail Iwill USA and see if I can get a response. Until further notice, I'll have to stick with 100FSB for my 850 t-bird. To bad, it seems happy enough at 133 fsb, but I won't risk the rest of my new system. My real concern is future upgradability when fast "c" processors get into my price range.

What about the "Turbo bios" released on 03/07...Any info on this?

I'm not sure I understand what you mean by the "Turbo bios from AMD". I poked around the AMD support site a bit, and the only BIOS support I can find is for their own chipsets. I didn't find any BIOS support info on Via chipsets like our boards use. I'm assuming Iwill is our only option unless Award supports directly.

I just finished tracking down the new BIOS you were talking about. It is from Iwill (supposedly), and it allows you to tweak the memory settings more like an Abit or ASUS board. I've also been to Iwill's BBS/Forum, and poked around. To get there, Go to their web page<A HREF="http://www.iwillusa.com" target="_new">http://www.iwillusa.com</A>, choose "Support and Service", and then select the BBS icon rather than the "English" one. That will take you to the forum. Nothing there yet on our problem with high PCI/AGP bus speeds, except my new post;-). However, some folks there are brave enough to try the new bios, and it appears to work, but I don't think they evaluated it for speed and stability. It doesn't appear it will intentionally fix our problem either, but I might try it just to see.

Sorry I doubted you on the "turbo BIOS", but I didn't see where AMD would be supporting Iwill BIOS tweaks :redface: !

In reguards to our origional problem, I have read on some other boards that the reading we get from Sisoft on our AGP and PCI bus speeds is incorrect. Apparently, switching the jumper does drop the multipliers, this just is not showing up in Sisoft. I suspect this could be true, because my Tbird(b) is running stable at 8x133 (have not yet tried any faster). I really do not think this would be the case if the PCI and AGP buses were running at the speeds shown by Sisoft (I have a network card for cable modem access and a cheap tnt2 video card). Any thoughts?

chuckc983: On advice from todd at dslreports, I upgraded to Sandra 2001SE and it now reports my PCI, AGP and ISA bus speeds correctly at 133fsb. Apparently the previous 2001 version didn't work properly with KT133a chipsets. My 850 t-bird is now happily running at 133fsb .

pvsurfer: Thanks for the redirect to toodblah. I read quite a few of his posts, and he's got lots of quality advice and experience with KK266 boards.
