Hi guys,

I recently upgraded my graphics card from ASUS Strix 970 to an EVGA 1070 SC. I haven't clocked it yet so it's still in stock... But when I run the game, it feels a lot more laggy than my 970.. At times the FPS would drop to like 30-40 when driving and I'm not sure what's causing it..

Other PC components

CPU: i7 4790k (not clocked)
8GB DDR3 Ram
Stored on Samsung Evo 840 SSD

Settings:

Ambient Occlusion: High
Anisotropic Filtering: x16
Direct X Version: DirectX11
Display Mode: Windowed Borderless
Distance Scaling: 100%
Extended Distance Scaling: 100%
Extended Shadows Distance: 0%
FXAA: On
Grass Quality: Very High
High Detail Streaming While Fly: On
High Resolution Shadows: On
In-game depth of field effects: On
Long Shadows: On
MSAA: On
NVIDIA TXAA: Off
Particles Quality: Very High
Pop. Density: 100%
Pop Variety: 100%
Post FX: Very High
Reflection MSAA: x4
Reflection QUality: Very Hi
Resolution: 1920x1080
Shader Quality: Very High
Texture Quality: Very High
Water Quality: Very High
NVIDIA Multi_frame Sampled Anti-Aliasing: Off

Not sure what else to include.. Any help would be great. I ran GeForce Experience to find these settings above. Optimal wants higher settings lol but I lag like sh*t with them on..

Solution
The issue is when you are using higher graphics, your 8GB of RAM is a bottleneck, same happens to my PC after a while of playing GTA V, turn down your graphics settings and you will notice that the lag will go, upgrade to 16GB RAM and the issue will go no doubt.

Hope this helps :)
I must tell you to check the simplest things first such as drivers and what not but if that does not work then I suggest you run MSI afterburner while playing and monitor your computers performance to see where the lag spikes are coming from. If you notice that the GPU and the CPU and the ram are not bottlenecking then you most likely will have some issue unique to your system and or an optimization issue(which is unlikely). All in all GTA is a demanding game but your specs should be able to hold 60fps at 1080p. Check steam community to see if anyone else is having performance issues and then also check EVGA forums to see iif anyone over there is having a similar problem.

So buying 8GB more ram would help? I tried contacting my local electronics store but sadly, they don't have the same RAM I had bought from them 2 years ago..

Buy them online

You should be able to find RAM kits easily on Amazon. :)
