Lagg spikes with 2d applications at the desktop

Hi there, since I built my new PC, chrome and other 2d applications at the desktop would lagg for 1-2 seconds, as in, if I were typing something in to chrome, the lagg spike would begin, my input would lagg behind and not appear, the text, until the lagg spike was over; the same thing happens with other applications, clicks etc. won't register until the lagg spike is over, though keep in mind what DOES NOT HAPPEN is the application "stops responding" that's not what happens.

I did some research before posting this and some blamed the CPU while others blamed the GPU, my CPU is an intel i7 6700k, not overclocked temps are all fine, my GPU is an MSI Geforce Gtx 970, it came factory overclocked and, again, temps are all fine.

I ran a stress test for 14 hours on my PC and it didn't crash and the results were all good, am not sure what's causing this lagg spike, but bare in mind it isn't restricted to one application, it happens to all of my programs etc, not very often though I might add.

Thanks in advance

Then that's very off, your computer setup is very high quality, im not sure about the keyboard though not a brand im familiar with its possible if your keyboard is cheaper than the response time on the buttons isn't very good but that is quite unlikely. may sound strange but when was the last time you ran a virus scan on your computer?

I just have Microsoft security essentials and scan daily, why? Do you think a virus is the cause of this?

a virus could defiantly cause this issue, input lag could be caused by a keylogger tracking what you are trying before showing it on the screen. please go download and run malwarebytes its a fantastic little program that is widely used.

Alright, running a scan now, I'll reply with the results once it's done

Ok, I ran a scan and it said 0 threats detected:

I'm running a second, custom scan now with everything selected, what to look for and what drives to scan, will report back when it's finished.

to get an accurate scan you will want to turn off your computer and turn it back on in safe mode and then do a full system scan these can take upto a couple of hours but they are more effective at finding threats.

How do I do that?

Ok, I got 2 threat detections after completing that full scan, I removed them both, one was just bloatware the other was labelled as malware and had a jumbled name, anyway, I'll do what you said about safe mode and see what that does! Will reply with report

UPDATE: I booted in to safe mode, scanned with malware bytes, first scanning with threat detection preset, then hyper preset, then custom preset scanning everywhere for everything, returned 0 threats, so unless the virus is super sophisticated and undetectable... I should be good virus wise, right? Thanks

yeah as you preformed all those steps everything should be fine Virus wise its definatly worth keeping that installed and running it every month or so just to be sure, its not very common for a keyboard to cause an issue like this but do you have another one laying about that you could try for me or try it in a different port?

I just found a reddit thread where people say chrome and other web browsers are experiencing screen tearing, input lagg etc, just like me, and it's cause is graphics cards for some reason, I assume a bad update was pushed on chrome or my GPU so, I guess I'll wait for another update? The reddit thread had no solution ;c

Screen tearing is caused by the GPU sending too many frames for the monitor to process, in games you have the ability to turn on things like AA to stop this but on browsers and things it is a possibility for it occur, what this means is that you monitor more than likly has a 5ms refresh rate on it and because you have a high end computer its sending pictures back at a faster rate than that and that will be whats causing your lag. waiting for a update could indeed solve this issue but I cant say for 100% also upgrading your monitor to a 1ms refresh rate should also sort this problem also 1ms refresh rate monitors are amazing for MOBA's and FPS's I recently got one for myself 😀

Hiya, I don't play any hardcore competitive games, though if a 1ms monitor would help this issue then I'm up for it, could you suggest one? At the moment I have an ASUS MX279H, 27" 1080p IPS 5ms refresh rate, really like it:)
