Hi all, i have a strange problem, might be bug in firmware

I use Asus router with Merlin firmware. Very strong 2.4 and 5 Ghz signals around house.

Router has a WD Network Drive wired direct it shares Dlna movies and shows as a storage space.

When i connect to the 2.4Ghz Wifi on a laptop or pc or phone, i can see the NAS. Also my TVs while on 2.4Ghz wifi also see the NAS and can stream movies.

Windows 10 also shows shortcut to NAS, and so all working as it should.

However if any device connects to the 5Hhz WIFI the NAS is no longer available.

So, NAS on LAN, device on 2.4G works

So, NAS on LAN, device on 5Ghz does not work.

Cant see any settings in router to disable devices seeing each other, unless using Guest WIFI, where there is a setting to stop a guest from seeing your home devices

RT-AC86U and 2 x RT-AC87U routers, all three routers have same problem.

Tv on 5ghz no NAS shown
Pc on 5ghz no NAS shown

Thanks

All routers latest Merlin firmwear problem started about 3 firmware upgrades ago

It sounds like a bug but it could be a setting issue. In the case of merlin firmware I would recommend the smallnetbuilder forums. The guy "merlin" that wrote the firmware does his support on those forums. Other users may also know what is going on, it tends to be a little more technical than this site. Since it does it on the factory image that implies it is a issue in the base firmware and merlin is based on asus firmware so unless merlin can fix it himself he has to wait for asus.

It should not make any difference. The function that does the NAS is not related to the wireless. Most the wifi function is done in different chips not in the main cpu so it should not impact it.

So I get this far and then I notice "Main pc is...
No other LAN devices only the NAS plugged in, although when on 2.4Ghz you csn also see all the laptops etc. Oh. Main pc is also wired direct so its on WAN

Well guest networks can be set up on 2.4 and 5 but they are switched off, there are 4 available. Ive tried everything there is no connection to anything on my local network when im on 5ghz

I checked that setting anyway and its set to allow access

The other thing is.. i am sure when this first started it was the other way around, connect to 2.4 and seen nothing, now connect to 5 and see nothing.

It does look like when i updated firmware, but at those times i did a reset. But did a factory restore on one router and still same problem.

So cant use 5ghz really. Although today im getting a new WD NAS an updated version to the my cloud mirror, a WD My Cloud EX2 Ultra

So when it comes its going on a diffrent router, so lets see if the problem is still there.

One other thing, each router has a USB memory stick, these can be seen on any band 2.4 and 5 show them

Thanks

If you have multiple routers in your house you will have all kinds of issues accessing devices where the traffic must go WAN-LAN. This is the same reason someone on the internet can not access things inside your house without lots of things like port forwarding. You want only 1 router and that you should connect to the ISP. All other devices you want to run as AP.

Solution
I dont have all sorts of issues at all, only this one. You dont know my reasons for 3 routers so why say i only need 1, thosands of devices throughout this 35 bedroom mansion, and 1 router would not cope.

Ok, ill leave now, nobody here can hekp.
