I have a landline socket in my room but I need an ethernet cable so that my PC will connect to the internet as the hub is too far away. Can anyone recommend an adapter so that I can connect an ethernet cable to the landline socket?

Honestly, the wireless connection from my ISP is utter crap, only ethernet works well. The signal is fine, but as mentioned, the wireless is useless.

ISP? what does your ISP have to do with it?

ISP = Internet Service Provider

the unit that will provide WIFI in your home is either the "modem/router" or "router".

It really depends on the path the phone lines take and the quality of the wire. You might be able to take out the rj11 jacks and rewire it to rj45 but the wire must more or less run directly between the location. If it is daisy chained though a bunch of jacks it likely will not work.

I would look at powerline networks.
