Question Laptop camera does not work sometimes

I've had my Acer Helios 300 for about 4 years now. Recently the camera just randomly stops working and the driver in the device manager goes to "USB BOOT Device" . However when the camera works the driver reverts to HD WEBCAM . I reset windows, reinstalled the driver but had no luck the problem keeps coming back no matter what. Does anyone know what the problem might be?

What OS under Windows are you working with? If you're on Windows 10, what version(not edition) of the OS are you on? Instead of resetting, I'd have reinstalled the OS, after recreating the bootable installer using Windows Media Creation Tools. As for the drivers, I'd suggest manually sourcing them from Acer's support page, then installing them in an elevated command, i.e, Right click installer>Run as Administrator.

Prior to reinstalling the OS, does your laptop have any BIOS updates pending? Be sure to backup your data before you do end up reinstalling your OS.
