Hi there - I am an innovating type of person. I am looking for advice on building a laptop to save money because I am tired of paying too much money. expensive things like bread, eyewear, Wacom's, restaurants, vacations, rent inspire me to innovate. if I had a laptop that I built myself I could make money building laptops for people. I could make money doing digital art, the best laptops for digital art are too expensive, which leads me here. I browsed for information on building laptops. I am willing to learn the jargon that the tutorials use. my room mate says building a laptop is expensive because the parts are expensive. what is the first rule of building a laptop? what is the overall price range for most parts? I want to build a laptop before art school. has anybody seen the price tag for calarts in California? zoinks.

Building your own laptop is not something easily done. The issues include that you need a motherboard that fits inside a portable case with a battery, and these are not sold to the public.

There is some work more recently on turning a raspberry pi into a laptop that you may want to look into, but they have limited processing power.
