I have a HP Pavillion AB 15 516 TX and i dropped it yesterday from waist height. The laptop immediately hung up and crashed. I tried to boot it several times but it said no boot device found. I tried the HDD test through system diagnostics and it says Short DST failed. But then after some time it tried to boot to windows and said the pc ran into a problem and sys32 is the problem. I tried connecting the HDD (yes i took it apart) to another laptop and the hdd still has all those files intact.I tried booting it up with linux mint but it shows a black screen with the title GNU Grub. I have seen this error before but seeing the HDD error and linux bootloader is my first time. So is it a problem with the motherboard or the HDD?

Sounds like the HDD experienced a head crash. Certainly likely if the laptop was on when the drop happened.

Get an SSD for the replacement. It will be 2x faster and drop-proof. ;)
Had the same thoughts... But why did it work when I connected it through a usb cable to another laptop? Always wanted an SSD though😁
