Laptop fan behaving strangely

So I have a rather intriguing problem. My laptop, an HP running Windows 8.1, (not entirely sure what specific model, though in this case I doubt it matters) has a fan that acts rather... strange. If I put the laptop in hibernation mode and then wake it up, the fan makes a god-awful noise, like every blade is hitting something as it spins. I am not exactly new to this, so my first thought is that the fan is failing. But, when I actually power off the laptop and power it back on, the fan behaves perfectly normally and spins completely fine. I am stumped.

My apologies, i should've specified that I was hoping for a specific reason that it only makes the noise when waking from hibernation mode, as opposed to all the time. Replacing it goes without saying.

It may be a bearing issue. Or there could be something could be stuck in the fan.
