Laptop fan seems louder than usual. Is this a good thing?

I have an Asus X501A laptop - I've had it for over 2 years. Recently, at some points during the day, the fan (which is located at the left hand side of the laptop), has been louder than usual. Is this a good thing? Does it prevent the laptop from overheating and having dust entering it?

no its not a good thing it is often a symptom of not being able to cool the system effectively due to dust buildup.
sounds like its time for a clean.

Most likely just need to dust out your laptop. If that doesn't help with the fan noise, it could be any number of things that's causing your fan to work harder/louder to exhaust out the heat/intake fresh air in.
