I got laptop that i use for after effects, photo-shop what best worked for me was

17inch screen
full keyboard (with numpad)
dual bay hard drive (must)

AMD Phenom™II Quad
8GB memory
ati dedicated video card (any ati or nvidia will work fine as long as its not embedded)
64gb SSD drive + 1TB 7200rpm drive

what i really wanted was dual bay laptop so i can Raid 0 2 '1TB drives, but it was hard to find so end up with SSD+ regular drive.

Video card card still plays very little role in after effects, photo-shop, GPU accelerated didn't work for me good at all, so that was least important part, as long as it got 512MB and its actual separate card in laptop any will work fine.

I have an older laptop that does wonders with Photoshop, Illustrator and Premiere video editor. It is an Alienware m15x

C2D 2.5Ghz T9600
8GB RAM
9800GTX Nvidia (which is faster than Nvidia 550m and ATI 5850m despite its age)
256GB Corsair SSD
Full size light up keyboard
1920 x 1200 LCD screen for managing large projects at true HD

If you can find an older one cheap and dump some memory and uber fast SSD it makes for a fast mobile workstation and damn good gaming machine.
