Question Laptop lags once I stop using external monitor ?

I use a external monitor for my laptop and just keep my laptop to the side and shut it . One day i wanted to just take my laptop on the go . So i unplugged the monitor but after i did that I can’t play any game with our getting 3 fps , or stream netflix with out it being super laggy . I tried to restart the laptop with having my monitor plugged in but still the same issue . Also once I plug the monitor back in i can do things normal . please help

Can you please state the make and model of your laptop? An SKU will help us two fold. With the laptop disconnected from your external monitor, make sure that the laptop is on the latest BIOS version and the latest OS version. Once that's verified, you should download the latest GPU drivers from manufacturer's support site(AMD or Nvidia) and use DDU to uninstall your GPU drivers. Reboot to Safe Mode and manually install your GPU driver in an elevated command, i.e, Right click installer>Run as Administrator.
