Laptop model: Dell Studio 1747

It's making this awful screeching sound when playing some videos, you can listen to it here:

I keep telling the owner one of the speakers is blown and needs to be changed, but he keeps telling me "no, it just needs some oil"

am I right that one of the speakers needs to be changed? is there any way to fix this other than changing the speakers?

PS) I believe this laptop comes with something called a subwoofer, I don't know what that is or how it's different from a regualr speaker.

"no, it just needs some oil"
There's nothing in a PC/laptop that needs lubricating with oil by an end user. If he thinks oil needs to be added, then water needs to be added to his fuel tank for his car(yes that's sarcasm).

With that out of the way, does the screeching die down when you reduce the volume? If so, might want to open up the laptop and see if the diaphragm for the speakers are torn/worn out/shattered. If they are, you will need to replace them with these;

and no they can't be repaired.

thank you for the thoughtful response. I feel like you really read and understood my problem. and I appreciate that you searched on ebay for replacement speakers. yes, the screeching dies down when volume is reduced. I tried to look up the disassembly of this laptop and it's more invasive than I expected. seems like I would need to take the whole laptop apart. I have gone as far as changing a laptop's keyboard before but nothing as invasive as this so I don't trust myself with this. Also I am not sure if it's the subwoofer or the speakers. This model apparently comes with a subwoofer (I dont know what that is, seems like it's just another name for speaker). I am thinking I will just buy a pair of speakers and connect them via the headphone jack.
