Laptop monitor refresh rate

Q3 runs badly on my laptop, which I dont quite understand. It's a 1ghz PIII, with a Geforce2 Go. I think the reason for the choppyness in q3 is my monitors refresh rate (set to 60hz). Now I have the opportunity to set it to a max of 85hz, but im a bit worried that it might damage my monitor. Please help me, thanks in advance.

No, that isn't the problem...my LCD is set to 60Hz as well, and it's fine. How much RAM u got in there, what r ur agp settings, which OS, and what background apps r u running?
