Recently, I am having these issues where laptop ignore the power button and it only turns on if I remove the battery and re-insert it.

It automatically turns on after re-inserting the battery with a message saying "CMOS Battery Reset".
Well it also automatically turns on even if I removed the battery and plug in my laptop.

But sometimes the power button works and sometimes it doesn't.

Will be it okay if I just do it like removing and inserting battery everytime. Will it reduces the life - span of my laptop or do I have to get my laptop for repair and services.

Please let me know what to do and if there is no problems doing with it, please let me know.

The laptop works fine and there are no other issues like lag/crashing etc. Just these cases.

Thank you again for those who replies and helping me giving advices.

replace the CMOS battery

remove the keyboard screws, remove keyboard, replace CMOS battery with a new one, reinstall the keyboard again and check if it works afterwards

There are additional details I have to add:

Since my laptop is running now and If I click on the power button, it'll goes to sleep as that would be the case.
But eventually, my laptop isn't going to sleep when I clicked the power button and hold it multiple times.

And also in my laptop model, I can't remove my keyboard since it is all fixed into it and it is
non-removable.

eventually you have to press a different button than the power button to wake it from sleep
try mouse left click

I think the keyboard is always removable, it´s clipped in and the screws are on the back.
Which exact model number does your HP ELITEBOOK 8460p have?

eventually a BIOS update could solve this issue from not waking up

No, I am not talking about waking up it from sleep mode, yes "The Left click button of my mouse" works to wake up but I'm talking about that when system is running and then if I try to click the power button, it should go to sleep mode but eventually it doesn't now, so does it have any issues with the power button or just any laptop hardware issues that I'm not aware of ?

Also will it be okay if I try to re-insert my battery everytime just to turn on my laptop?

Sorry for late response. but thanks for responding to me.

Also keyboard is removable, my bad.
