I have a Lenovo G5080 laptop with an 1.90 Ghz Intel i3 processor (4030U), 8GB DDR3 Ram, A 120GB Corsair FORCE LS SSD which holds my OS (Windows 7 Professional) and a few of my installed programs and a 500GB 5400RPM WD HDD.
I dont have a desktop and i use this laptop for all of my tasks e.g. storing all of my data, Gaming (not too hardcore), web/mobile development on virtual machines, illustrator/photoshop heavy task etc.
However my laptop often gets slow in the multiple and heavy tasks. I need some suggestions on how to upgrade my laptop for a performance boost without buying a new one. I was thinking of upgrading my RAM to 12GB and get a 1GB SSHD instead of my HD. Is this fine? Any other suggestions? Thanks.

Solution
The first thing to do is establish which component is creating the bottleneck. Task Manager will tell you how your CPU, RAM and SSD are being utilised, so have that running when you start an intensive task and see what's what.

My money's on the CPU. The 4030U is a low-power CPU designed for efficiency, not performance.
