[SOLVED] Laptop Ram 4GB + 8GB or 2x4GB?

Upgrading an old Dell Latitude E5540 Core i3 4010U (https://www.cnet.com/products/dell-latitude-e5540-15-6-core-i3-4010u-4-gb-ram-500-gb-hdd/)
that has 2 slots, 1 with 4GB of Ram. Is it worth filling the other with an 8GB stick, or smarter to run 2x4GB sticks?
If its better to go with 2x4, im guessing its simpler to just buy a set of 2x4 rather than just buy a different single stick of 1x4?

I will sell the 4gb and buy 2x4gb back. Reason is a new stick may or may not work with the first stick. like this:
