Ok so I have a old Acer Aspire 5720 (1GB ram version). Firstly I understand that this is not a good laptop. I also understand that laptops have a short life span however i want to get this working for very basic tasks suck as internet browsing and video playback.
The problem is that at random points (even when pluged into AC cord) the laptop screen suddenly goes black and the PC is shut off with not even a shutdown process. My first thought was overheating so I downloaded a program called 'speccy' to check temps and they were all around 40 degrees when performing no tasks but for a poor laptop i think this is fine. Just incase i tried cleaning the laptop without opening it using a compressed air can but no dust at all came out. I have noticed these shut downs occur mainly when watching a video on youtube or a stream on twitch.
The PC has had a clean install of windows 7 (upgraded from vista) and is runnning very quick. It is def not a virus. I also use to get a loud noise coming from laptop which was very random and would last for a few mins. Not sure if the noise was coming from the fan or the HDD but this noise has not happened recently which is strange.
Any suggestions on what could be happening and if possible some fixes would be appreciated. Whilst i would rather not open up the laptop i am perfectly comfortable doing so if needed.
Could upgrading to 2GB ram help despite 1GB being the min req for windows 7? Dont want to but more ram unless i fix this or more ram will fix it.
Thanks in advance!
