I'm looking for a laptop around $700-800 for general use/school work that is reliable and will last a decent amount of time. I don't really know the top Laptop brands and I would like some recommendations.

Thank you.

Is great for browsing the web, doing presentations, project all that stuff.
From my research it should go for around 700$, with 256 gb of ssd, making it pretty fast for everyday use.

I have picked out a few as well that will meet your needs:

Lenovo Yoga 720 2-in-1 Ultrabook - $709:
  • i5-8250u Quad-core
  • 8GB DDR4
  • 256GB SSD
  • 13.3" 1080p - 1920 x 1080
  • 2.9lbs
ASUS VivoBook S (S410UN-NS74 ) - $799:
  • i7-8550u Quad-core
  • 8GB DDR4
  • 256GB SSD
  • Nvidia MX150 2GB GDDR5 - Decent for light gaming or photo/video editing and light CAD
  • 14" 1080p - 1920 x 1080
  • 3.2lbs
Huawei Matebook D - $799 (Amazon):
Huawei Matebook D - $700ish (Newegg):
  • i5 8250u Quad-core
  • 8GB DDR4
  • 256GB SSD
  • Nvidia MX150 2GB GDDR5
  • 14" 1080p - 1920 x 1080
  • 3.5lbs
Personally, one of my favourite laptops around at the moment. Huawei's Matebook D offers great quality and value for the price.
Huawei Matebook D (AMD Ryzen)- $650ish:
  • Ryzen R5 2500u Quad core + Vega8 Graphics
  • 8GB DDR4
  • 256GB SSD
  • 14" 1080p - 1920 x 1080
  • 3.5lbs
More or less the same performance as the Intel Matebook D (See benchmarks here)
Edit: Cheaper Matebook D (Intel) link (Newegg) and added AMD Ryzen version of Matebook D.
