Laptop resolution onto Monitor.

My Laptop Resolution is 1366 x 728, I connect it to my 1980 x 1080 monitor and it duplicates the smaller resolution onto the monitor. I know it can produce 1980 x 1080 display because when close my laptop screen it goes into 1080. Is there a way i can permanently keep the monitor in 1980 x 1080 "mode"?

Press the Windows+P button and set it to second screen only or Projector only

you can use the "extends my desktop" option although that will make it 2 separate screens you can use . if you are only using the monitor when connected to your laptop you could set it to use only the monitor by selecting "second screen only"
