Laptop running hot

Hi,

Not a major issue, I have a desktop and only use my laptop for gaming when travelling, It's not just my graphics card, the processor runs hot too and the case is hot to touch.

On idle the temperature of my processor runs at roughly 67 degrees C, then gets up to the high 90s even on simple games like prison architect and cs:go, the fps on prison architect go down to about 15 fps, obviously too low for my specs

Roughly 6 months ago I re-applied thermal paste to the processor and GPU, I haven't used the laptop a huge amount since then, but before I did it my laptop would overheat and turn off, is it possible there's some sort of heat damage that has been sustained?

67C at idle is too hot. 90C while gaming on a laptop is not unusual. The computer will usually throttle before it hits 100C, which it sounds like is what is happening.

Does the fan spin? Put your hand next to the outlet vent and see if you can feel the hot air blowing out (on that laptop, I believe the hot air is blown upwards in front of the screen).

Have you tried cleaning out the fans and vents? Turn the laptop off. Take a can of compressed air, and blow it into the vents. If you've never done this you will probably get a huge cloud of dust, so best to do this outdoors. Continue blowing in all the vents until no more dust comes out.

Sometimes, if the dust hasn't been blown out regularly, the fan gets completely clogged with dust. In that case you may have to disassemble the laptop to take out the dust by hand. You said you reapplied thermal paste so I assume you would've seen the dust if this were the case.

Yeah not overly worried about the 90C while gaming
The fans do work, they're basically on virtually all the time haha
When I put the paste on I cleaned out the fans, there was a huge amount of dust!

Do the compressed air trick anyway. If the fans were clogged full of dust, the vents are probably clogged too.

Were the idle temps lower before you repasted?

ok I'll give that a go and see what happens

literally high 80's/low 90's, I wrote it down somewhere along with fps in games to see the difference, I remember counterstrike went from about 20fps to 70, needless to say I was impressed 😀
