Question Laptop Screen Cable Upgrade ?

Hello everyone, I need help regarding the laptop cable, specifically the upgrade of the display cable from 30 to 40 pin. I have a Laptop MSI GT72VR 6RE Dominator Pro, version with 60hz (overclocked to 75hz) monitor and I want to upgrade to 120hz, I have already found 3 compatible monitors that will fit and have the same mounting system. Unfortunately, like an imbecile, I just bought the 40 pin version of the cable for my laptop for the exact same model, but the cable is wrong, specifically, I have a 40 pin EDP in the laptop in the motherboard and a normal 30 pin to the monitor. But I bought a 40-pin cable to the monitor, which I need, but a 40-pin LVDS signal to the motherboard, which logically cannot work.

Even worse, connecting LVDS to the EDP is not possible for most people, and in the worst case they will blow up the motherboard, luckily I noticed it, unfortunately $50 it's gone, but whatever. However, I need advice on what to do, this is my K1N-3040023-H39 cable, I ordered K1N-3040057-H39, upon closer examination, one can see that the end of the cable that goes to the motherboard is completely different, but what if I cut off only the end that goes to the motherboard the 40 pin to the monitor and soldered it to my original cable since the only thing I need is a 40 pin end to the monitor so that I can upgrade, would that be possible?.

And if not, which of these 3 models that I found on Ebay could theoretically work? K1N-3040068-H39 then K1N-3040143-H39 and finally K1N-3040120-H39. And please don't write me an addendum to buy an external monitor. If I wanted an external monitor, I'm not asking about how to upgrade the monitor on my laptop logically, and for those who immediately write that it's not possible, it's logical because it's just a cable and a few people did this upgrade and succeeded, so unless they have 30 pin on the motherboard, in which case it is not possible. Anyway, sorry for the long message, thanks anyway to everyone who can advise me what to do, and if there are mistakes, English is not my native language, thanks for understanding.

Hello everyone, so after hours and hours of researching, my technician managed to do the upgrade. I was even a complete amateur because the original cable I bought was correct because it was actually an EDP, only the sides of the terminals were different so that a person could distinguish a 30 pin model from a 40 pin one.

So for everyone who is interested in the same upgrade, for example, from 1080P to 4K or, as in my case, from 60/75hz to whatever is better, I'll put it this way: it's a risk operation, if connect the wrong cable, it will destroy your monitor in the best case, or your motherboard in the worst case. And not every monitor will work, I found out all the information possible, and it works properly, so G-Sync still works for me to the fullest, this only applies if you buy a monitor that was made for your laptop and has some information in the Bios about this or that monitor. Because G-Sync works differently in laptops than on a desktop computer, so I won't guarantee that it will work for yo, and it propably won't in 90% of cases.

So if you want to upgrade, find out if your laptop has a 40 PIN on the motherboard, search, search and search again somewhere on the internet, it will and if you are not sure, feel free to give it to a technician who knows about it. If you have a 40 PIN on the motherboard, there is a 90% chance that it will be upgradeable, but not for anything you can think of, for example, new monitors, so even OLEDs use 0.4mm pin pitch, most of them, but these old laptops that you will upgrade have the old 0.5mm pin pitch, so no OLED, unfortunately.

So what you will need is the right EDP cable for your specific laptop model, the monitor that will go, so the right dimensions, the mounting system, it's not enough just to make it 17.3 or 15.6 inches, and of course the monitor voltage, and finally find out what version of displayport your laptop has, I know mine is probably version 1.3, so 1.3 and older will work, but 1.4 probably won't work. I wish everyone the best of luck and remember to double check before you start anything, but don't believe anyone who tells you it's impossible, everything is possible if you want it, so Good Luck.
