Laptop shuts down automatically when Adapter is Plugged in!

My Dell Inspiron 15 3541 laptop shuts down automatically when AC adapter is plugged in (while on) and turns on automatically when AC adapter is plugged in (while off).
Runs on Windows 10

Yes, I do..a brand new battery at that.
It happened even with my previous battery (and I assumed it was due to the old age of the battery)

Since the laptop turns on after it is completely off, tells me it's a physical issue. Maybe a faulty motherboard because the power supply is built into the motherboard. I would try replacing that. If it costs too much bring it into a pc repair place by you and maybe they could try a cheaper alternative. If that is still too expensive you are probably better off buying a new laptop.

Ok thanks, also I noticed yesterday that when the laptop is fully charged, it does not automatically turn on when plugged in (i.e I had to turn it on using the power button). I don't know if this changes anything from your previous advice. Thanks
