Hey guys, so basically I bought a new asus X550CA laptop. The thing is absolutely brilliant apart from one problem. Ok, so while I am playing games like minecraft on it, the touchpad has some issues. For one, the tap-click does not respond ( I,ve disabled the touchpad delay when using keyboard), the tap-click is very glitchy and responds like one in ten clicks. The multitouch( to scroll between items in Minecraft) also doesn't work. I,ve been to loads of google searches but no help so far. Anything is appreciated.

it does it on pretty much every single game i've tried...Borderlands 2, Crysis 3, Minecraft, Battlefield 3. I think its the driver(s) but i mean srsly?? its a new laptop and Asus's update app says all drivers are up to date

no i cant find anything like that...not in control panel, not in windows 8 pc setting
btw this laptop was windows 8 n i upgraded it to windows 8.1, BUT, i forgot to install ALL updates bfore upgrading to 8.1....maybe this is the issue

Maybe a driver missing or not working properly? Have you try looking for the drivers of the touchpad and re-installing them? It could help solving the issue.

I did a quick search on Asus site and for some reason they don't have the drivers for the touchpad (or at least i couldn't find them), but checking around Google i came up with this http://www.driverscape.com/download/asus-touchpad

Try installing them and see if it works for you.

You can see all the available drivers they have for you machine here http://www.driverscape.com/manufacturers/asus/laptops-desktops/x550ca/34481

Let's hope that re-installing them it will fix the issue.

EDIT:
You do not need to download the utility they are advertising, you can go straight for the driver.

umm...i followed your link but it only downloads this utility, scans your computer for drivers and then prompts to update outdated ones, when i click update, it asks me to register n buy it n stuff.
I have been on Intel's website and did their auto-detect drivers thing, it has downloaded a couple of drivers, i'm going to check minecraft, lets see what happens :)...Also, what is Intel(R) Management Engine interface??? My Device manager shows that its not working properly, the exact thing it says is 'Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)

Ok, so i searched again Asus site and it turns out they do have the touchpad drivers... I was looking at windows 8.1 and they are not listed there, but they are on windows 8.

Before you install it, it might be good uninstalling the previous one, just make sure you have a mouse in hand so u can still navigate easily around your laptop.

Also, uninstall the program that was installed with the previous link i gave you.

About the Intel Management Engine, it's for remote accessing your pc, so if you don't plan on having the laptop somewhere inaccessible from you, then you don't really need. If you want to install the drivers for it though, you could search on Intels site.

righhhht, ok. So i've installed the driver from your link and....my problem has been SOLVED. Even the multi touch functions wrk now, everything is fine EXCEPT...another prblem, i can move around using WASD and look around using the touchpad at the same time, but, the tap-click (not the touchpad button clicks) dont wrk while em holding down any keyboard key. The touchpad isnt totally disabled like in Synaptics n stuff, i can look around using touchpad and move WASD but the tap-click doesn't wrk while using any keyboard keys. THANKS for the solution, but plz help me out on this NEW prblem as well...thnx ! :)

Look at your touchpad configurations and see if there is an option saying something like "Disable touchpad while typing" or something similar. If it has such an option disable it and test again.

Asus Smart Gesture doesn't have much options, no advanced options at least. Windows Pc Setting (charms bar) does have the 'set delay before mouse works', i have changed that to No Delay (Always On). But still nothing.

Try going Control Panel > Mouse > Device Settings > and select Synaptics Clickpad (or a similar device if that's not the one it has) then click Settings > find PalmCheck-Enchanced >PalmCheck and turn that slider to OFF. In case you don't have PalmCheck, search for SmartSense.

I followed you but there are no device settings...I screenshot it

I do not have Windows 8 so i can not check this myself but i found this on an another site:

1) go to control panel
2) click on hardware and sound tab
3) Find Synaptics TouchPad (at the very bottom for me) and click on it
4) find where it says PalmCheck-Enhanced and ckick on it
5) move the mouse right and click on the settings button beside where it says PalmCheck-Enhanced
6) At the top, drag the arrow on the bar all the way left to turn it off.

Can you check this out too?

Also, what about the options where it says "Change mouse click settings" and "Customize mouse buttons" ? Did you check if there is anything there too?

Following your post, this is all i gives me...no synaptics

I am guessin this is bcuz i''ve been to Device manager and and in the mouse drivers it says my drivers' manufacturer is Asus...which is probably why i can't find any settings...now, what i wanted to ask was if i remove that Asus driver and install an Elantech or Synaptics driver...would tht help an would tht get rid of all the Asus multi touch gestures (cuz i like them alot). And yeah the 'mouse click' option n etc gave me the same box in the picture i uploaded earlier (my previous post)

there u go...

can i uninstall Asus driver n then install Synaptics n see if tht makes a difference (any issues involved?)

I don't know how it will work out at all, i found the drivers from Synaptic here http://www.synaptics.com/resources/drivers you can give them a try but i don't know what the results will be, and they suggest using the ones your manufacturer gives you, do you have any external mouse in case your touchpad gets disabled completely? Also keep in hand the previous drivers as well because u might need to reinstall them.

Also take a look at this http://support.asus.com/Troubleshooting/detail.aspx?SLanguage=en&p=3&m=Touchpad&s=111&hashedid=n/a&os=30&no=1776 i think you should have that too somewhere, they call it Asus Smart Pad and it does have the option for PalmTracking, write on search on windows 8 Asus Smart Pad and see if u can come up with anything.

Smart Pad isn't installed on my laptop...shall i install it manually via the Asus website???
I think Smart Pad is for only ElanTech drivers, since mine uses Asus driver me default program is Asus Smart Gesture which does not allow you to change the options for Palmcheck...i guess this leaves only one way, i've emailed Asus (since my product is still under warranty) and lets see what happens, thnx for all ur help tho, i'll repost here if i hear from Asus...meanwhile, lets keep searching for solutions :)

I can't find where to download the smart pad, which probably means that it comes with the drivers. I think its better to wait a bit till Asus replys and see what they have to see. Did you tell them that you want to disable PalmCheck and how to do it?

ryt, hey Noshiz...so i've told Asus about everything n for 2 weeks i've tried about 1000 different things...so lemme tell u wht we figured out (although Asus thinks it's a hardware issue but thts absolute b.s)
So, i've been to the bios and i couldnt find anything there, i dunt even think tht my laptop even has some sort of Palm check...since palm check disables the WHOLE touchpad while typing, but mine only disables touchpad tapping and not moving cursor around or even clicking the touchpad buttons. I have found out tht my touchpad is actually called a clickpad so maybe the whole palmcheck thing doesnt apply (u noe those apple macbook style touchpads/ clickpads). I have tried something interesting, i figured out tht this palmcheck interference myt actually be cuz of windows and not Asus, so...i installed Ubuntu in a dual boot config. (i was planning to install it anyway), Ubuntu has a very EXPLICIT option to TURN OFF palmcheck (i cant remember if it was actually called palmcheck or something different), and voila! my keyboard and touchpad were working simultaneously without any problems! So, the interference is obviously frm Windows, i've been to the registry...but i cant find any options for palmcheck there (surprisingly the reg. actually has a root called synaptics so this laptop does have some form of synaptics software in it) . Now, i was wondering if windows has a 'terminal' (u noe like Ubuntu has a 'terminal') where i can diable specific services. Also, i uninstalled EVERY single tp driver, apart frm the very basics one...(apparently my touchpad has 3 different drivers running the touchpad at the same time, one from Asus, the other 2 from Microsoft, i found this out in Device manager) and my touchpad was working perfectly fine, but it had no multi touch options or anythin n i just can't live without them. So (n i realise tht this is one long post) any ideas? oh yea, btw maybe Asus just uses a modified version of a synaptics driver??? (tht would explain y i have 3 different drivers and y i found synaptics in the registry)

Windows do have a terminal, y[strike]ou can find it by going to "Start" and then to the white search box write "cmd" and the terminal will open,[/strike](forgot you had windows 8) for windows 8 if i recall correctly go the search box (by opening the side bar) and write "cmd" in there, though for services i think that in that white search box u should write "msconfig" and at the window that it will open choose the "services" tab and check there whats running and whats not. You can mess around with it by deactivating services but keep in mind that deactivating some Microsoft (or even Asus) services might cause you some issues.

Since you find the solution on Ubuntu and it was PalmCheck, there has to be a similar option for Windows, there is no way that you don't have somewhere in there a similar option.

Also, did u try installing the synaptic drivers from the link i gave you before? (this is the link http://www.synaptics.com/resources/drivers) I don't know if it will work, but well you have pretty much done everything so give it a shot as well, you got nothing to loose other than time.

yea i've already tried the Synaptics driver, but it says device is incompatible (not surprised)...i'll try the 'cmd' thing n then post back (i am really really thankful for your time as his issue is probably getting a bit tedious by now)...ok em updating this, i tried the 'cmd' thing...and there is a service thts something like 'touchpad and keyboard' i've disabled it but it asks me to restart for changes to to take effect, but em afraid if it gets disabled, will i lose the ability to use ANY input devices???.....ok another update, i found out tht the 'touch keyboard and handwriting service' i mentioned earlier is for the on-screen keyboard, so disabling it wont help with my issue. any other ideas???

So on your "msconfig" the only related option you found was "touch keyboard and handwriting service" ? Wasn't there anything else at all? It's hard to believe that there are no other option.

hmm yeah i've checked again, n just to confirm (in case i am completely on the wrong thing) i have screenshot where i am...

So, i've written all the options/ services tht were there (half of them didnt make sense to me so i didnt know what they were related to, btw, since the list was REALLY long...i've omitted some of the obvious ones i knew are not related to touchpad i.e. adobe acrobat services n stuff)...

...So thts it, I missed ALOT of them out cuz i knew wht they were for (or atleast they didnt seem like they had anything to do with the touchpad)...The 'Human Interface Device Service' is disabled (why?) so i'll try to enable it n then give the touchpad a go. Are there any other services that should have been there btw?
