Question Laptop Touchpad not working/detecting after hotswapping

I have a Lenovo Ideapad z500 Laptop and touchpad right button wasn't working. I ordered a new one and before replacing old one - I just hotswapped the touchpad strip (removed and inserted the strip back while windows was running). After that my old touchpad stopped working (windows doesn't detect it all after reboots).

I then handed over the laptop to outside technicians to replace the old touchpad with new one but they said that both new and old touchpad doesn't get detected at all. USB mouse gets detected though.

Could the motherboard (or touchpad strip port) get damaged due to the hotswap? I'm about to order one more touchpad and test it again.

Hot swapping a non hot swappable part is almost guaranteed to end badly, as in this case. The simple answer to your question is yes, you might well have damaged something on the motherboard necessitating replacement of the motherboard.

Do I have to replace motherboard? Could I just give it to chip level servicing techs and fix only whatever is damaged? I don't know if I can get a new Motherboard since this old model.

Unless either you or your chosen tech have access to the schematics (very, very doubtful) and can obtain the exact component that failed, then motherboard replacement is the ONLY solution here.

I had a word with the technicians and they said they did test the touchpad connector using multi-meter and found no issue with the board. They did say they're willing to check everything once more. Right now they believe its the touchpad that's not working. I'm waiting for another touchpad to arrive and then might proceed to check the whole board if touchpad doesn't work.

Multi-meter or Oscilloscope? The signals involved are not viewable by meter alone. If they didn't use a scope then immediately retrieve your hardware and find another (competent) shop.
