Laptop won't get into windows if I use my 4gb RAM

Hello everyone,
I know that this kind of problem may have been posted before but I still haven't got an answer to this. So I still would like to ask.

I have an Acer Aspire 4745G laptop which originally only had 2GB RAM. Recently, I decided to upgrade my RAM and so I bought a 4GB RAM stick.

I was using Windows 8 32-bit and when I see the system specs, only 2.80 GB of RAM was usable so I thought I had to change it to 64-bit. But while the 4GB RAM was still in the laptop, even the windows installer can't boot and didn't go anywhere other than showing me the windows logo with a blank black screen behind. And then the laptop would restart itself and back to the windows logo.

So in the end, I removed the 4GB RAM stick and I was able to install windows 64-bit. After installation, I tried to put the 4GB RAM back but the laptop can't load anymore. (Only showing the ACER and Windows logo and then it restarts itself). So, I tried to remove the 2GB RAM but it still couldn't. I will have to remove the 4GB RAM so that my laptop could be back to normal.

But I really want to upgrade my RAM (In fact, I need it to work faster). So, please help me. Do you have any solution to this? I do know that it will be easier if I use 2GB and 2GB or 4GB with 4GB. But for now, I can only use 2GB with 4GB. So, even if it's complicated or hard, I would still do it.

NOTE: 4GB RAM spec => DDR3 4 GB PC-10600

Thank you before.

Solution
THe issue is very likely that the 4 gig stick you have is not compatible with the Acer. You can try to do a BIOS update and try again. If it does not work, try a new stick of RAM, or try another 2 gig stick instead of a 4.

Read the manual to make sure the system can support your configuration, some systems require the RAM to match in type(single sided vs dual sided) and may need to match the speed if that is different. According to the specs, the RAM it came with is 2 GB DDR3 SODIMM PC-8500 and you are trying to use it with PC-10600

I have tried to use another 4GB RAM stick but it was still the same. It will works if I combine my 2GB RAM with 1GB or 2GB RAM.

How can I match the speed?

Was that other 4 gig stick the same speed as the existing RAM?

Matching the speed is easy, just get the same speed RAM when you buy it.

A thing to try is go to www.crucial.com and run the system scan there, it will give you the compatible configurations and RAM for your system. Prices are pretty decent there as well and they offer a guarantee so if the RAM does not work, you can return it. You may not see much speed increase from 4 to 6 gig of RAM, plus you lose the dual channel capability if you put in a 2 and a 4 gig chip together. If another 2 gig stick works, you may think about just leaving it as is and run it with the 4 gig total.

Keep in mind that while crucial is very good at getting you the configurations, they do sometimes have faults where they say something should work but it does not.

Did you run the BIOS update like I suggested?

What is dual channel capability? Is it bad to lose the dual channel capability? (sorry I'm still a beginner)

I was going to, but I was afraid if there will be an fatal error or something.

Dual Channel is a way of accessing more RAM at the same time, both sticks work together for a speed boost.

In most cases doing a BIOS update has no issues, but if you don't want to try that as a fix, don't have to. You can always just try different RAM or use two 2 gig sticks. And make sure you read the Acer manual to make sure it can run on mis-matched sticks.

I've just checked it out and it says yes. The laptop can run mis-matched sticks. It's just I don't know why do I encounter this issue

I gave you a few things to look at, different 4 gig RAM stick with a matching clock speed as your existing one, and/or a BIOS update.
