Laptop won't shut down - goes to sleep mode instead

Hi, I have an Acer Aspire E1-510 laptop, had it for almost 4 years now. 8 months ago I encountered an issue - whenever I tried to shut down laptop would go into sleep mode. At the time I was on Windows 8.1, and I tried every solution I found, taking out the battery, holding the power button, disabling fast boot, pretty much everything but nothing worked. Then I reset BIOS settings and upgraded to Windows 10 and the issue disappeared.

However, few days ago it started happening again. Can't exactly say when, I turned on my PC a few times and noticed battery wasn't on 100% (I usually keep it plugged in all the time), but it hasn't been more than a week or two. Also must note that since yesterday every shut down attempt resulted in it being stuck in sleep mode. I tried resetting the BIOS already, hasn't helped.

Anyone got any ideas? Would really appreciate it, as I haven't been able to pinpoint the cause

P.S. Only thing I installed recently was an Intel gfx driver, which I rolled back (installed the old one again) but still no changes. Should I try to remove it completely and then reinstall my old one?

Hello bookworm24

Can you please check for and install any Windows updates?

Also, please try Disabling Fast Startup as explained here, and see if that helps?

You may also want try Changing the Current Power Plan.

If none of the solutions works, you can go ahead and remove the currently installed graphics driver, and try shutting down the computer without installing any. If the problem doesn't occur anymore, the latest version of driver could be the culprit, and installing the older one from the scratch might do the trick.

Feel free to report back for any further assistance.

Cheers!!

Thanks for the reply! It didn't work, disabled Fast Startup, changed all the Power Plan options.
Graphics driver I uninstalled, still not working. Reinstalled, tried Safe Mode, and it still won't shut down.

Win updates are up to date.
It seems like uptime resets (either upon waking up or after a restart). However, I can turn it on by pressing any key and the on light blinks every few seconds

I even tried setting Power Button to shut down but upon seeing the lil blinking light I knew it was a bust. Disabled Hibernate too, still won't properly shut down. I don't know what else to do

Hello again

Although it sounds a bit unrelated, can you please try Running the SFC /SCANNOW Command and see if could help?

Good Luck!!
