Laptopo to HD TV connection

I have a Toshiba Satellite L75D-A7283 laptop running Windows 10. I want to connect the laptop to my HD TV via the HDMI cable, and then use my TV like the laptop's monitor. Switching via Windows-P button sequence. Should I be able to do that? It doesn't seem to work.
