I am building my first PC with a budget of $775 and I wanted to know if I should get a small storage ssd and a big hard drive for more storage or would that just be slower than only a ssd

Solution
I suggest buying a ssd only.
The largest one your budget will permit.
240gb is the minimum; ok for windows and a handful of games.
500gb will let you go a long way.
If or when you run out of room, it is easy to add another drive later.
A HDD is good for large sequential storage like videos.
Otherwise a ssd is much better.
The most SSD you can afford for the OS and applications.... (2 TB Intel 660P/665P are inexpensive M.2 NVME models, but, many folks are happy with standard SATA, Crucial MX500 is priced well, good performer)
What you do not want is a 120 GB or even 240 GB SSD...;too small.

an HDD (4 TB or so) if needed for additional bulk storage, applications...

Depends on budget and space needs.

If your drive budget is $100, and you need 3TB of total space....well, that makes the choice different than if you need 500GB total space.
