Just recently finished building my new computer and my Internet was fine before that so I don't think it's my router itself. It started yesterday where for about 2 hours+ my ping would go to 300+ and stay there, it sorted itself when I update and restarted my computer since I thought it was the windows update and it was fine after that. So I come back today and started watching Netflix then the same thing starts again and I couldn't watch anything so I went into a league game and I was getting 300-500ms again. Please help! and thanks in advance. Posting task manager and in game ms problem below incase anyone wants it.

Just ran a speedtest while this is happening and it usually never happens with my internet so i'm wondering why it's doing this all of a sudden; usually 12mbps down and 3mbps up with atleast 30ping but now i'm getting this.

People are on the Wifi now and I thought it was that initally that but even when I turn it off nothing is changing. No one was in the house either when it was still lagging.

are you able to hardwire directly into the modem? That would help us narrow down some of it.

Also, did you install the drivers for your wifi card? Either way, I would go back and reinstall them

Yeah I'm using an Ethernet for my pc right now. I don't know what a Wi-Fi card is or how to install drivers for them though :3

OH. I thought I read that you were using wifi, my bad.

Sounds like you might have to talk to your internet service provider about it.

hit start, type 'cmd', hit enter, type 'ping 192.168.1.1', hit enter. Looking for the number after 'Lost '

Then try that same thing, but type 'tracert google.com', and hit enter. Here we're looking to see if pinging google is a problem.

Do the above when you're experiencing bad ping

Yep, that is 100% your problem. First thing to try is just setting the time manually to the correct time.

Boot into bios and see what your time is on there.

Also, try selecting a different time keeping server. To do that, right click your date and time at the bottom, and click adjust data/time settings. Turn off 'set time automatically', and change date and time button, then select a different server

I just fixed the time of the clock yesterday by going into adjust date/time setting>Internet time and selected a different server. I never done it through bios though so I will check that because I done another netalyzr after adjusting the time but my the other two problems were still there so overall I'm still lagging :/

yeah check the time in bios. When you boot up, spam the function keys, usually F2/F11/F12 and the delete key. It may be something else, you'll have to look into it for your motherboard.

If the time is incorrect in your bios, you'll have to replace your cmos battery or RMA your motherboard. If the time is correct in bios, then windows is messing something up, or you have some program messing it up. Allow about 5 minutes in bios then check that time against something like your phone

Did you always have the latency issues, or did they just start recently?

They just started recently.

Hmm, You're having the same problem I ran into a while back. It's a huge pain.

Most people can fix this problem by replacing your cmos battery, but if that doesn't work (didn't for me), you may have to download a different program to keep time. I'm at work or I would tell you what program I ended up with, but I never really ended up solving this. It sort of solved itself after time.

How would the system keeping a different time cause my ping to spike so high?

I don't know if it's because I changed the server yesterday without going into bios or not but I checked just there and the time was only 2-3 seconds off which I am thinking is fine. So if that it not my problem is it my ISP? Just a little background, I'm with Sky Broadband and I have Unlimited Fibre so I should be at least getting 40-50mbps but I think because of where I live it was normal to be getting half that, but now I'm only getting 2mbps and that doesn't even matter since my latency/ping is in the 300ms+ range.

I'll be honest with you, I could make up something about it but I truly have no idea why it really matters. My theory was that applications would try and verify that your connection is real by checking your time against theirs, which should be the same, and that fails, so each packet of information needs to be verified a different way, leading to a queue of your information, and the increased pings. I genuinely have no idea why it matters though, or even if that is remotely close to the truth.

I don't think it's your ISP though, at least it wasn't for me, and we seem to have the same symptoms.

How long did it take your situation to resolve itself? and was their anything outstanding you remember that solved it?

couple days, probably like 8 to 10 hours of working on it.

I think the last thing that I found to work was setting up a program to act as my new default time server. I also remember trying to manually set an offset, so that by default my system time would run (in its mind) 230 seconds slower. Didn't work.

When you turn your computer off and boot it back up, click your time at the bottom so you can see the seconds counting up. Do the seconds count by at an accelerated pace?

Just talked to sky support and they said it was an external fault and an engineer will be deployed in a few days to sort it :)
I will leave this thread up until it is sorted, but thanks for your information so far. I just hope it will be sorted shortly,

Well it's been 5 days.. I haven't called my isp back yet but I will soon if this is still a problem. Internet is still fluctuating to around 130-200ms with download ranging from 0.3-10mbps. I've noticed through programs like aegis that my CPU is running at 40 degrees celcius and is in the red, I take it that isn't normal... I've got a i7-4790 with a Corsair H100i. Just an update I guess.

I've been having a weird phenomenon in these last two league of legends games i've played. For the first 20 min I was getting constant 180-200ms ping then after 20 minutes in game it would go to 38-40ms, what is causing this to happen? or is it just a coincidence?

Maybe coincidence? I'm not sure, It sounds like the connection optimizes to that server after a certain amount of time or something. Weird though

Ran the netalyzr test again and most of the things like system clock have been cleared up: http://n2.netalyzr.icsi.berkeley.edu/summary/id=36a470be-30732-1d6d2845-7a26-4cf9-b338

Been putting off talking to my isp but it seems like there is no other way to explain the constant packet loss etc. Couldn't have been just my computer as the wifi on my phone has also been really slow.
