[SOLVED] Latest Edge update breaks Internet Explorer compatibility mode

I just got the new Edge update to Version 100.0.1185.29. I visit some sites that require compatibility with the old Internet Explorer. Edge offers a compatibility mode, found in the Settings / Default browser section. There's a list you can fill in, "Internet Explorer mode pages" with an "Add" button. You specify your site and Edge will add it to the list and open all listed sites in compatibility mode. This itself works, HOWEVER what is broken in the new Edge update is that THE LIST OF COMPATIBLE SITES IS NOT "STICKY", AND IS "FORGOTTEN" EVERY TIME YOU EXIT EDGE. This list used to "stick" until a day or two ago. Seems to me that Microsoft has introduced a bug here.

Has anyone else noticed this problem? Has it been reported to Microsoft? Any workarounds? (It makes it easier that Edge now offers an icon to switch the current tab to IE compatibility mode. But this step shouldn't be necessary.)

Thanks!

is it on 10 or 11? Did you give any Feedback using the app? they won't fix it if they don't know about it.
Happened to me under Win11, but someone else tried it under Win10 and same thing happened. Not surprising; it's a browser feature, not the OS. Hadn't thought about giving app feedback; I'd figured that was about as useful as writing the president and expecting a personal response. But I suppose it's worth a shot.

i get that but if enough people have the same problem, they might fix it.

I found a problem with a windows app last week and reported it on app, I don't expect a change either as the problem isn't likely to effect most users.

it probably is a global change to Edge, as I doubt its that different between 10 & 11.

this looks like the settings you mean - https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/deployedge/edge-ie-mode-local-site-list

might be an unplanned change, as they updated the area last month - https://www.theregister.com/2022/03/30/ie_mode_changes/
its only early, its possibly it will get fixed in a patch.

Visiting sites that require Internet Explorer is viewed as an unsafe practice and a security risk so they really don't want you to do that. That may be why they don't want to save the settings from session to session. Its part of their security campaign to erase everything internet explorer related.

We got the same problem with Edge Version 100.0.1185.29 on Windows 10. Beside myself I know of 3 colleages with the same issue.

We need the IE-Mode because we are using a service, that depends on ActiveX. We hope very much that this bug will be fixed very fast.

Best regards
Harald

its new, I can't find anyone else online with same problem
IE Mode is not going away until 2029 so they need to fix this for places that need IE support

I would suggest reporting it on Feedback app as more that do, the more likely they fix it.
