ATi are not gonna support legacy cards in Win7.

Note: AMD’s DirectX 9 ATI Radeon graphics accelerators are not officially supported under Windows 7.

The list is quite long and it includes ATI Radeon 9500 Series, ATI Radeon 9550 Series, ATI Radeon 9600 Series, ATI Radeon 9700 Series, ATI Radeon 9800 Series, ATI Radeon X300 Series, ATI Radeon X550 Series, ATI Radeon X600 Series, ATI Radeon X700 Series, ATI Radeon X800 Series, ATI Radeon X850 Series, ATI Radeon X1050 Series, ATI Radeon X1300 Series, ATI Radeon X1550 Series, ATI Radeon X1600 Series, ATI Radeon X1650 Series, ATI Radeon X1800 Series, ATI Radeon X1900 Series, ATI Radeon X1200 Series, ATI Radeon X1250 Series ATI Radeon X2100 Series and ATI Radeon Xpress Series.

Most chipset IGPs won’t officially support Windows 7 which is kind of an issue if you ask us.

Personally, I don't have a problem with this - if you want to run a new OS, you should be expected to have reasonably modern hardware. You have a problem with that, stick with your old software.

Also, archaic IGPs should not be expected to run DX11 software either.

The attack puppy leaves the last line to point out Nvidia are supporting Win 7 back to the GeForce 6XXX series... which of course means developers now have to consider DX9 limited hardware running Win7 software.

Not "officially" supported. My Ram isn't "officially" supported in my MB, but it still works fine. I'd guess it is just a driver thing, something ATI could fix if they'd like. Or is this just implying something like those cards can't do DX10 so they can't do Aero so they aren't supported, and NVidia has some sort of emulation? Who knows, but I agree, if you have one of those cards still there really is no reason to go to Win7, as you'd probably be spending more on the OS than the computer is worth.

Well, backwards compatibility must end for some hardware or else developers will have to start testing all programs developed under archaic hardware which should not even run Win 7 in the first place.
I agree amiga500, people with crappy hardware should not even try a new generation OS. :kaola:

This is no different than old printers not having supported Vista drivers. People complain, then move on and get a new one. If you have running an older DX9 video card, chances are you intend to stick with XP or Vista. You can't expect everything to be supported all the time.

As mentioned, they state it is not officially supported, but you can install the vista drivers. I work in an IT department and we use software in unsupported ways ALL the time. Unsupported just means you can't call them with your issue. I think it is actually nice that they stated you can use the vista drivers. I mean Windows 7 is just Vista with some new stuff added and a few things changed.... like superprefetch that made old or cheap machines cry to sleep.

This doesn't really matter, because they're still making Vista drivers for them. Vista drivers are pretty much exactly the same as Windows 7 drivers. Also, it's ONLY DX9 cards. Can someone name the last non-DX10 cards ATi made? They have to be old as hell. Good riddance. NVidia should do the same, I swear if I see another new game released with DX9...

@shadow: whoops, my mistakes about that smilies... :)
@dekasav: with vista driver of course... i think it's time to upgrade to better one, since my X1650 is 2 years old... (it really make me feel so stupid when i saw my "slow motion" effect when i'm trying to play RE5 or SHIFT)
