LCD aren't for FPS

After reading some posts here I nearly went out and bought a 19" LCD monitor. Thank Christ! I didn't.

Some people here are kidding themself. I went and looked at two monitors Samsung (15" & 240T) these both claim 25ms response time.

Both where set to native resolution and look better than any CRT I have seen. But how about FPS, unfortunately none where loaded.

So here is my simple test, load note pad, type in a few lines of text, reduce size of window and drag notepad around the screen. Result is the text was unreadable and even the window ghosted approx 1" until I stoped then crystal clear again.

Rapid movement in a FPS would have to leave the scenery as one continuous blur soon followed by a headache and a for sale sign.

1) Samsung does not tell on their website, if they measure response time as "rise AND fall" time.
2) I have an Eizo L365 with 25ms rise and fall time. It is one of the fastest in its class, but it still ghosts.
3) Funny thing is that CRTs ghost too. I have an Eizo f67 (has another name in US). and with a black background, my mouse makes a blured tale like a comet. Still it is much less than on the LCD.

my samsung works finr for my gaming. for the moment i use 2 moonitors, and when i take notepad and drag it around on my lcd screan i cant read it, but not on the crt screen either... so for me i dont notice any big difference

I just bought a Samsung 191T and it has the crispest picture I have ever seen on a monitor. As for response time it is 25ms on->on (I spoke to a rep at Samsung) I did the little Notepad test, I could still read the text (although a little blurry when moved FAST) and the window only ghosted a very little bit, same as any CRT would do. I think think the quality you get from this monitor outweighs ANY minor downsides it might have to a CRT.

ps- I also use it for gaming and I was impressed here as well.

The problem is always with the last thing you check ... so start there first.

I've been using a Samsung 760TFT, 17" for about half a year now, and I'm a constant FPS gamer. I'd have to say that I prefer it over my old Sony 19" monitor. Ghosting has never been an issue for me with this one, as I haven't noticed much of a difference between it and the Sony. Tearing on the other hand is slightly annoying, thus I usually have v-sync enabled for my games.

If you notice on the new reviews of the matrox vid-card, they are showing off their triple-head view with 3 LCD monitors for Quake III 😉
