I have a new jetway 17" lcd monitor and my video card is an ATI Radeon 9200
dual monitor with t.v. output.
The monitor came with two cables, one for dvi and the other for the svga
plug ins on the video card. When I plug the monitor into the video card
using the dvi cable it flickers really bad on start up. Once windows loads
the drivers then it is fine. Then if i play a game that uses dos mode (not
a window) it flickers again.
I was thinking this would have to do with not having a dos driver installed
to handle the monitor before the windows drivers load, so I updated all the
drivers to the latest versions. No luck.
Then I tried using the regular vga cable (and the vga plug on the video
card) that came with it, it works fine on startup and when i play games.
I would like to know if there is fix for this so that I can use the dvi
cable connection.

XP has no DOS mode.

Yeah I know that's why I clarified by putting 'not a window' in parentheses
right after I typed that. And since that doesn't really address the question
in the original post thanks ever so much for your input.

But you are using Radeon XP Video drivers..........not DOS drivers.
I suggest you hook up both cables between video card and monitor.
In DOS mode it should read the analogue signal and work fine and in XP mode you
might have to go to video properties and make digital your startup choice.

The settings for DVI are usually read from the monitor. Did you uninstall
the old monitor from device manager before attaching the new one???
Download the latest Radeon Drivers and the uninstall utility from ATI.
go from here. It should clear up your problems.

The startup is using the basic VGA drivers and possibly the DOS game is
too, probably the ones in the cards BIOS. This may be poorly adapter
for working with the DVI output. Consult ATI to see if there is an
upgrade to it:
