i just wish they'd go back to addin card for optional features.

keep gpu's for rasterizing and have Raytracing addin cards for that like way back in day.
Raster performance is already extremely high at the high-end, allowing 4K at relatively high framerates. The industry wants upscaling to become the default choice, which makes it even easier. Frame generation is also an option, although it needs more work.

So when you think of a future RTX 6090 delivering double the performance of an RTX 4090, and uplifts to cards below that, the need isn't there. Looking to game at 8K240?

Raytracing is the next logical step. It's not going away; it will become more prominent. Your add-in card idea is bad and will not happen. The switch over to raytracing will be better for developers in the long run.

I'm also unconvinced that removal of raytracing support would improve anything. If you have GPU cores that can handle rasterization or raytracing, then you just switch them from one task to the other as needed. The silicon doesn't need to remain dark.

lol what is the story here?

I'm on a 7900XTX and I never use FSR or FG because I have enough horse power to play native. How many 4080 and 4090 users do the same or actually using DLSS on these cards? RT for sure but I think upscaling and FG have less impact on high tier cards.
I use dlss 24/7 and twice on weekends.

you missed entire point of my post.
keep raster on gpu and keep prices lower for ppl who have no need of RT features. (the cost of even "entry" gpu's is way higher than should be and its only going to get higher)
and if you want them? pay for a dedicated RT card addin.

ahh yes because we have already seen how that works out for the consumer due to devs effectively requiring it because they skip out on optimizing game and w/o its awful.

idc if that benefits the devs its a bad take as you should never purposefully not optimize your stuff :|

It's not going to go down like that. It doesn't need to go down that like.

If you want entry-level, buy used, or an APU.

duh?
I never said it was. I just said it was my want (as you arent paying for what you odnt use).

even then games can run modern games bad even on entry gpu's. (i.e. Ark Ascended runs like crap even on a 4060) if games push more demanding even at low end you will be requried to buy a 600+ gpu just to play a game on low settings. (and nobody who buys a dedicated gpu actually want to play on low)
