I have Creative 2.1 speakers from a few years ago and they worked great until a week ago when the left speaker would stop working until it was either moved or I kicked the bass speaker which it's connected to.

I checked all my connections and they seem to be plugged in properly yet it's still stops working sometimes. Help?

Solution
Sounds like the cable to the left speaker is damaged. Considering the speakers are a few years old, it sounds about right (happens to all cables eventually). The only way to fix this would likely be to:

- Wiggle the cable at both ends of the wire (one end at the speaker and the other at the sub). This is to confirm which end the cable is damaged and should be right next to the plug. You can tell this because the audio will cut in and out as you wiggle it.
- Cut the cable about 1.5cm above the plug (if that is the end that is damaged and resolder a plug onto it. There are plenty of guides on how to do this on the internet.
- Keep in mind that the cable will likely have insulation on the cables themselves (gives the cables a light...

- Keep in mind that the cable will likely have insulation on the cables themselves (gives the cables a light red/green color) and that will need to be taken off to ensure a solid connection. Generally running a hot soldering iron on it works well.

Otherwise just replace the speakers or try to find a way to hold the cable in the right spot.

Solution
Hi Wxponent,

Was there any solution to your problem? I am asking because I have a similar issue for over a year now. I turn on my PC and sound is good for a while then left channel just turns off. If I unplug the jack and reconnect it comes back fine, and works for a while (several minutes usually).

I have tried several things and still I have the same issue. I have bought a sound card and still the same. I have changed speakers and again the same thing. I am wondering if it is some grounding problem as it definitely not hardware unless caused by the mainboard somehow.

Any help or direction would be much appreciated!

Regards,
Gergely

Csiszargergely, if you have exactly the same problem with different speakers plugged into the same jacks, then the problem is in the jack itself. Getting access to that to attempt to fix it might be difficult. BUT then you say you replaced the sound card and even then have the same problem. To be clear, do you have that problem with BOTH sound cards, AND with BOTH sets of speakers on each card? That is, there are 4 combinations there. Do you have this trouble in all cases? That would be weird!
